ha!
we thought the last night train was bad---
this time we get on.. lucked out to have seats in a group of four- two sets of two facing each other so we could prop our feet up and attempt a twisted laying down position of some sort.
in night train terms, we were on top of the world.
and two minutes before we pull out of the station, our very quiet uninhibited car gets filled to maximum capacity with a group of 14 year old spanish music students. we heard a rendition of happy birthday to one lucky girl on the train in about every language possible complete with clapping, dancing, guitar, drums and someone skilfully walking around the train filming the entire thing..
best part of all was their endurance........................
Arrived in Barcelona without a wink of sleep
but still managed to have an amazing time even with the rough start
Barcelona was perfect!
beautiful weather, nice and hot but a constant breeze.
we spent three nights and four days and still didn't manage to see all there was to see.
saw our favourite cathedral to date: Gaudi's Sagrada Familia. after 100 years of construction it still has 30 to go, and yet we were still mesmerized by it. the detail he put into it was incredible.
went on another free walking tour
had a beautiful beach day
took the tram up the mountain and spent the day wandering around the castle at the top as well as the olympic stadium and museum
saw Gaudi's park with a great view of the city
went to see some traditional flamenco dancing after a dinner of veggie paella and tappas mmmmmmm
met two guys from Edmonton staying at our hostel and spent most of our time touring the city with them
we even went on our first pub crawl.
(more details upon request)
we will say there was this amazing shot we took ..we asked the bar tender for her favourite and we got:
a halved orange filled with sugar and some type of booze sitting on top of our actual shot glass and then lit on fire. once the fire is out you take the shot from the orange and squeeze the orange juice into the (actual) shot and down that. beautiful.
anyways.......
hands down we will be back to Barcelona
and to see the south of Spain that we had to cut because of time restraints
how is three months so short at times??
didn't sleep tonight, as we have a plane to catch at 6AM that includes an hour long bus ride to the terminal not to mention the fact we have to be there two hours early...
Italy here we come!
