I just got done blow drying my pants because my family does not have a drier, and my jeans didn’t dry hanging last night…
SUPER excited about these four months without a drier…<--- all these little boxes are actually smiley faces that just decide not to turn out...
So I love it here, as I am sure I have said many times before, but I am so tired. I cannot, for the life of me, get enough sleep. Apparently my body wants at least 9 hours of sleep every night while I am here…Perfect. I usually can’t get to bed until 11pm, and I always get woken up by my loud family at 830 in the morning..always.
I do love my family! But they are loud. So are the people that live above our apartment.. the walls and floors and ceilings are SO thin. Gosh. I may look like I have died when I come back, but it doesn’t mean my time here hasn’t been great!
Last Saturday a friend and I walked around Toledo and explored. It was great! Toledo is so neat and so complicated and has such amazing views. With the river surrounding ¾ of
the town, there is always a pretty view. We found another smaller and quieter shopping street, and a bunch of little restaurants tucked into the corners of the town. I’m excited for it to warm up more and stop raining so I will explore more. I really enjoyed walking around.
Speaking of warming up, the other day was like a summer day! It just transformed into summer and everyone had gotten rid of their winter jackets in exchange for light jackets and whatnot… but of course it didn’t last. As I type it is rainy and gloomy and sure doesn’t look like it is warm.
I got a job! Sort of…I got an email from one of the student coordinators about tutoring a kid. I went down to talk to her and found out that I get to teach a Spanish teen English one hour a week-10 euros each time- AND the family lives about 1 block away from my family! It’s so perfect. I’m excited about doing it. It’s something that I really wanted to do while I was here but I wasn’t sure how to go about getting the “job.” It starts on Tuesday, and I
will definitely let you know how it goes.
I am also working on meeting up with my intercambio. It’s an arrangement with a person I met to meet for 2 hours a week and speak one hour in Spanish and the other in English. I met the guy at a dinner thing that the school put on specifically for students to meet Spanish natives to do this intercambio with. I’m excited to do it. I can tell that this person will be a lot more patient with me and my Spanish than my family is.. and it will be really nice to talk in English and for once not be the one who doesn’t seem to know how to speak.. haha
My friend and I have our hostels booked for Spring break! We were originally talking about going to Greece, but it’s so expensive and all we want is the beach, so we booked 6 nights in Nerja, Spain. It’s a small town on the beach in southern Spain on the Mediterranean. It’s very famous for it’s caves if you Google it.. Then we are spending the last 3 nights in a nearby larger city- Malaga. Those last
3 days are the days before Easter so they will probably have cool processions and stuff going on while we are there…Anyway, I’m really excited for that and it is a LOT cheaper than going to Greece-although Greece would be amazing.
By the way, thanks so much to everyone who messages me and leaves me notes or just reads. It’s really, really great to hear from everybody. I love it here, but in a way I am alone! And I can only spend so much money on phone cards to call Greg.. and my mom My host family is great, but if I’m having a bad day I usually just choose not to talk to them because it becomes too hard to convey what I’m feeling in Spanish. But anyway, thanks again, guys!
My art class is going to the Prado this Friday. I’m really looking forward to that. I won’t be able to take pictures, but I will try to buy postcards and take pictures of those to put up here.
Speaking of classes.. for my service learning class, we are each going into the community to work with immigrants. My teacher right now is
trying to place me in a daycare because she knows I would like to work with kids. I really hope it works out. I miss working with kids! I would be there about 3 hours each week… I can’t wait. I don’t think I will start for another week, but I will let you know how it goes of course 😉
Well, I am sure I will update soon to let you know how all these new things go! Have a great week everyone. = )
O, my family is talking about getting a computer….AND INTERNET! =)=)=)

Jet Lag
Another set of cool pictures. It is like a pre-show for Lois and I, 36 days and counting. I would imagine you are suffering a bit of jet lag and time change still:) The first week you probably were getting by on Adrenelin. I look forward to your blogs and I know the rest of the family does also! Can't wait to see you! Love you!
