Sorry about this, I'm just updating my travelblog a bit... and I realised that I had not written anything about Mallorca. Mallorca as you will know, is one island of the Baleares in the Mediterranean Sea, and belongs to Spain. I've been there thrice over the years, and from time to another it had changed considerably. Now it is known as one of the main cheap and mass touristic destinations - it's next to Ibiza, says a lot... BUT there are still very local and tranquil places on the island, especially towards the North - mainly because the only airport is in Palma de Mallorca, in the far south of Mallorca. Thus all the cheap tour operators and "all inclusive" offers choose the bay of Palma as a destination - and only few tourists do have ... read more

You can't really go wrong with £18 return flights to Spain, so when I was looking online for trips that Joel and I could do throughout the year, the Balearics were first on the list. Touching down in Mallorca, the island looked deceptively small, so armed with my Lonely Planet I had great ideas about exploring it all. Turns out we really only scratched the surface on our five days there, but we made a good effort at seeing a lot of the capital. Next time I'd be keen to see the northern parts where there's supposed to be some great walks - although that'd require no drinking, so we'll see... Palma has quite distinct districts. On our first two nights we stayed very central - in the old quarter, which was brilliant for high street ... read more

well hello to all,we know it has been a long time since our last entry, so what better way to battle the hangover but to sit in front of the laptop and stare at this page...After our last blog we went back to the beautiful croatia and cruised from top to bottom over two and a half weeks. It was an awesome way to see a handful of the 1000 islands that stretch the coast. Our season finished in Dubrovnik so we hung out there for a couple of days before heading to Palma where we currently are, just coming to the tale end of our shipyard period. On our way to Palma we stopped and refuelled in Tunisia and took a couple of hours to have a look around. It was ramidaan while we were there which is when the ... read more

After boarding the ship in Tunis we enjoyed afternoon tea and we were off for the Island of Mallorca - one of three that make up the Balearic Islands! It was the only time we left port early enough to get some really great shots of the Mediterranean and we didn't waste that opportunity. We arrived in Palma de Mallorca and made a bee line for the bus station - NO WAY were we going to stay in the hustling-bustling city - too much chaos for us! We got to the train station after locating every tourists' savior - the Tourist Information Office. Gus had done some reasearch on Mallorca and read about a charming village in the mountains called Valldemossa. What the book failed to mention is that Valldemossa is a small slice of heaven ... read more

Landing in Dubai was nothing short of a surreal experience. I’m really not sure that the whole scope of this journey has really set in, or that it ever will. To me, I’m merely carrying on my life, now immersed and surrounded by a vastly different world and its plentiful and frequent new experiences. Dubai’s airport is a massive expanse, and though I’d imagine it to be usually bustling with people, Ramadan this month means that it is more than half empty. Less than a quarter full, even. It’s about a 7 minute walk from tarmac to passport control, and the attendants behind the desks have no facial expression and don’t even bother speaking to you, except to ask your country of origin and the reason for you entering their country. It’s a further 5 minute ... read more

Mallorca was the last stop on my big tour of Europe. I flew from Lisbon to meet up with Mum and Eric (who had) flown in from Madrid) and James (who had flown from London). They picked me up from the airport in our hire car and we had a family reunion and loads to catch up on from Mum & Eric's tour. We stayed in Port d'Andratx which is about 40 mins out of Palma, in the south western corner of the island. I was really impressed - I had feared that after seeing Costa Brava that Mallorca would be really touristy and full of Brits on package holiday but it either isnt like that, or we chose a good area to stay!! I think being a port a lot of people choose not to ... read more
