Final Day’s
I’ve just re-read my first account of our time in Sierra Nevada and although we have managed to have a couple of nice day’s not much has changed on the negative elements of our stay.
We finally caved in last week and made the decision to leave. Things just weren’t going to get any better and the whole experience was doing nothing for mine and Jaime’s health.
Today is Sunday the 4th October. Jaime flies back to the UK tomorrow whilst I have decided to spend some time with my sister and nephews in Germany.
Its been over a year since I have last seen her so I’m really looking forward to some girlie time.
We’ve been here 3 weeks now, 10 day’s of which were spent in that horrible filthy storeroom I described for you in my last entry.
Once we moved into one of the Casita’s life improved a little as we had somewhere clean to escape to after a day of battling the filth everywhere else.
The food situation did not improve however, we are still eating day old left overs and I have found myself with a constantly upset stomach.
Jaime’s constitution amazes me as
he managed to fight off any ailments throughout our stay.
We had a couple of day’s off last week which we utilised with a hiking trip over the Sierra hills to the village of Orgiva and day trip to the coast.
Neither day held much significance except for an injury I managed to pick up on the walk back to La Viento one evening. I tripped over some metal prongs left out by workers repairing the village streets of Lanjaron and ripped a nice big chunck out of my toe. The toenail is history and I spilled a decent amount of blood in front of the butchers shop window (how ironic).
I should have listened to Jaime and taken myself of to the emergency room for some stitches then.
The next day was Saturday and our host was holding a pool birthday party for some guest’s that afternoon. I stupidly thought my toe would be ok as long as I kept it taped up and covered in plastic to prevent infection. After running around for nearly 11 hours to carry out our usual chores and then serving drinks, tapas and dinner to the guest’s my foot was throbbing with pain
and bleeding again.
We were finally excused at 9 pm and fell into our beds after a hastily scrapped together dinner.
Today, Sunday, I decide to be sensible and rest before our journey tomorrow. Poor Jaime is still running around carrying out senseless chores and patching faults throughout the buildings that really should be looked at by professionals.
I’m felling slightly guilty, but its fairly peaceful on the terrace of our casita and I have managed to relax for the first time in weeks.
I’m still undecided on whether this experience has put me off WWOOF’ing full stop - surely they cant all be this bad.
Jaime is going to spend some more time finishing things off in England (DIY, Selling his car, eBay’ing his life away etc), whilst I’m going to give myself a couple weeks at Heidi’s to switch my head off and try to get my fingernails clean again.
And then? Who know’s, maybe take on a little job in Germany to keep the finances healthy, maybe we will brave the enticing calls from foreign places such as the Galapagos & Japan…..whatever happens, I’ll keep you posted.
For now we’ll call this a lesson learned and
mainland Spain struck of our list of potential places to live……… Speak soon xxxd
