We woke up early this morning so Hannah and I could get to the Mezquita while it was free. We ate breakfast around 8:15 and then headed on our way. The Mezquita is literally like 2 minutes from our hostal, so it didn’t take very long to get there. We walked through the garden area to get into the actual church area. Inside the Mezquita was very beautiful. It had the famous red and yellow curved arcs mixed with the typical golden catholic statues. The whole building was a blend of different centuries and cultures, like Roman, Muslim, and Catholic influences. It was definitely worth looking at, especially since it was free. After we enjoyed the beauty, we decided to head over to the Alcazar. It was a Moorish castle with a beautiful garden. Entry was 6 euros, and not worth that much. It does include a night show with lights, water, and music. I wasn’t able to attend that because it was late at night. Since Hannah was leaving today, I was weary about going out in the dark by myself. We walked around after seeing the Alcazar for a little bit, until we found the typical patios of Cordoba.
Every May there is a contest between who has the best looking patios. They decorate their patios with beautiful flowers and colored flower pots. It was beautiful to see some of them until a man asked us if we had a ticket. Apparently for some of them you have to get a ticket, which most likely means you have to pay. We told him we didn’t know, so he pointed us in the direction of the tickets. We ended up leaving because we didn’t want to pay to see it. So we made our way to the smallest street in Cordoba. It was pretty small, but I thought it was going to be a lot smaller. After that we made our way to Santo's Bar. They are known for their huge tortillas. We each grabbed a slide, which looked like a huge slice of cake. Of course it was absolutely delicious. We made our way back to the Roman Bridge to see if the girl playing the violin was there. She happened to be, so we sat down and just enjoyed her music for a little while. We ended up talking for a long time while soaking up the sun.
Suddenly, we saw the violinist start to pack up her stuff, so we ran over and asked her for a cd. We ended up answering some of our questions about her. She isn't a student, like we thought. Her job is actually to play there everyday and try to sell CDs. She is definitely very talented, so I wonder how many CDs she actually sells. When you think about it, people from all over the world come to Cordoba. The most famous monuments of Cordoba is the Mezquita. Right next to the Mezquita is the Puente Romano ( Roman Bridge) where she stands under the arch and plays her music. I know for sure that someone in Pensacola, Florida and someone in Bremen, Germany will have her cd. How cool is that? Her cd is probably all over the world, and she isn't "famous". I can't wait until I can actually hear her cd, but that will be in about 6 weeks whenever I go back home. We finished talking and made our way back to the hostal so Hannah could get her things and catch her bus to Sevilla. After hugging goodbye, exchanging emails, and saying we will see
each other the next time I am in Bremen, I went back to room to pack for my trip to Granada tomorrow. I ended up having a new roommate that night. She is an older woman from Germany. She doesn’t speak very good English, so I think she took this trip 50 years ago when she was 20, and now she is repeating it. At least that is what I gathered. Tomorrow I will be going to Granada, my last stop on my traveling around part of my trip. Tonight I am getting a long, good sleep to prepare myself for my trip to the southern Spanish Muslim city, known for pickpockets. I can't wait!
