Hey everyone!!
So, this past weekend IES had its final excursion, to Cadiz. Strangely, we didn't spend all that much time in Cadiz, but most of the time traveling in-between different locations, probably because Cadiz is pretty far away from Granada!!
We left Granada really early on Saturday morning, and headed for Jerez. We got there around noon, and first stopped at a really famous horse farm, which breeds world-famous horses. I don't really know anything about horses, but apparently these ones are pretty great...we saw a show where they prance around. My favorite part was when they let all the baby horses and the mares run out together, and all of the babies each searched for their mom. It was really cute.
After the horse show, we went to a wine factory in Jerez. Jerez is really famous for its sherry; the word "sherry" is a mispronunciation of the word "Jerez" in Arabic. The way that they make the wine is really complex, and they still use the same methods today that they did 100s of years ago. We got to try some, and I thought it was really gross.
Cadiz was beautiful! I wish we
could have seen more of it. By the time we got there, it was already almost night-time. But, I did manage to go take a quick dip in the ocean, which was pretty cold, but it was worth it just to smell the salt water, and to swim in the Atlantic--if only for a second.
The next morning we left Cadiz, and headed to a national park outside of Malaga, which is famous for its strange rock structures that were created because the entire park (which, by the way, is a huge mountain) used to be entirely under the ocean.
Today, Monday, I had my first "intercambio," which is basically a language exchange. Students from our international school get paired up with Spanish students who want to learn English, so there is mutual benefit. I feel like mine went really well! My intercambio partner was very nice, and very helpful. I think that it will improve my Spanish immensely over the next month or so.
I miss you all a ton! And Grandma and Grandpa, thank you so much for the Halloween card...I just got it today! I really put a smile on my face.
I'll
write another entry next week when I get back from Barcelona!
Love,
Amy
PS—I can’t believe I forgot my camera again when I went to the Alhambra for the second time! Thankfully, I will almost definitely go with Gigen, so I will take pictures then.
Horsie HopsitalThey don't let any other horses on this farm, nor do they let any of their horses leave the farm, to prevent the spread of diseases.
