Poland was proud to cohost this big event. The locals didn't progress past the preliminary stage despite the enthusiastic support.

This beautiful royal cathedral sits at the entrance to the palace.

The climb to the top of the main tower was worth it for the view over this beautiful city.

The Rijeka is the biggest medieval square in Europe and is surrounded by elegant buildings and open air cafes.

Huge caverns in the former salt mine had been transformed into churches and chapels. There were some amazing figures sculpted from salt.

Arriving from Bratislava. The last section of the four hour trip ran along the banks of the Danube - great views.

The infamous stretch of road where hundreds were shot over the four year period of the seige. The Holiday Inn was where the international journalists stayed.

Mosques stand beside churches and synagogues. Made us wonder why the country had had such a bloody history.

Although this ancient bridge was rebuilt after the war it is still very impressive.

The temp reached 45 deg and the river looked inviting but the water was freezing.

This ruined building beside our B&B had been the local high school before the war. We saw many buildings like this.

You can't see it but we are cooling off with our feet in the river. Local men dive from this bridge into the river.
