It was a 4 hour train ride to Ljubjana from Venice and i was excited the entire way knowing i was going to catch up with Luke who i hadnt seen in 8 months! When i arrived it was raining and so i navigated my way to the hostel as quickly as possible however alas by the time i arrived i was drenched. When i got there they put me in the wrong room so i actually thought Luke and Chris hadnt arrived yet which was alarming because i know they should have by then, however then i heard Lukes unmistakable voice yell out to me and we were reunited!!!
that night we had a few celebratoy drinks in a bar but even though it was a saturday night the city was dead!! In the morning we went down for brekky but then went back to bed for a sleep in because none of us had had one in ages and we needed one desperately!!
We eventually set off into town and found a nice market. The city was beautiful with a nice river flowing down the centre. We made our way up to the castle which was a
nice walk even though the castle itself was disappointing. From there we walked even further up to a church we could see poking out ontop of a hill in the distance. We were blessed with more great views up there and then we went to a traditional slovenia resteraunt and had lunch. Chris ordered a soup that came in a bread bowl!!!!! it was amazing!!
That arvo it was time for some haircuts. Chris had brought the cheap clippers he had bought in Germany and i had some little medical scissors. somehow we ended up with three pretty solid haircuts and some really funny photos.
That night we had dinner at the same resteraunt because it was so good, then we walked around town looking for somewhere to go out however all we could find was this outdoor cafe who had a duo playing live. They were amazing, sang heaps of english classics with no accent at all!! So we watched them till they finished and we went back to the hostel to chill. The next morning we were off to the station to get our train to Budapest via Zagreb.
Despite being told Zagreb was crap
and a waste of time, we decided we would stop by to get a small glimps of the Croatian capital, even if it was for a fewhours. Because our train was delayed by a fallen tree on the tracks we only had about 3 hours before our connection to Budapest. We set out firstly to get some lunch. After walking for ages we found a deli/milk bar and bought some ingredients for a nice picnic lunch. Walking around the town we could see that even though there wasnt much to do here, Zagreb was indeed beautiful. We walked some more, found a nice church and some really funky little streets and by then it was time to make our way back to the station to get out train to Budapest.
