Thursday 7th may 2009 A very warm sunny day, clear blue skies. We headed for the snow line first heading for Pokljuka, we drove up to 3600 feet where we found snow it was quite strange shorts and tee shirts in the snow, Barney thought we were mad!!!
We then backtracked and took the road to Krma well more of a track really. We came across a village that had been torched by the Germans in the war killing 22 people. The National Park authorities have partially rebuilt one of the buildings and have a monument to villagers memory
The rivers and countryside were spectacular, we drove until the road was no more - snow and some cross country skiers at 2,700 feet.
The wild flowers were beautiful Carpets of Crocus ,Christmas roses and what I think was Edelweiss also heather
We lunched at a delightful isolated Bar Psnax Gostlina at ZG Radovna, Rod and I having home made salami sausage with a lard, David tried the Cheese and bread dish (krapi) with Sauerkraut it was good and we sat in hot sunshine surrounded by mountains. The Lady owner was extremely pleasant - as we have found all the Slovenians. They
all speak some English, we journeyed back to base via Bled for some shopping and have sat out in hot sunshine since.
Today Friday - boat to Bled Island, Gill rang the church bell three times and made a wish - Bindy watch out !!!!!
Rest day before we travel to Camp Slapic at Duga Resa for an overnight stop.
