There's no need to write a lot about this mountain area, because you can see how beautiful and peaceful it is from my pictures. We were there in early Spring (March), so forests and hills just started turning all shades of green, but such fresh, clean air and excellent food made our week as relaxing as it can get.
While we were on Zlatibor, we made a short trip to see Mecavnik on Mokra Gora mountain, which is a resort created by Emir Kusturica, famous Serbian film director. The reason why people go to see it, even if not staying there, is the way it was built, since it looks like an old Serbian village with huts and houses completely made of wood, but with a special Kusturica touch, which you can easily notice, if you've seen his movies. The paths or "streets" between the houses/apartments have interesting names, e.g. "Jim Jarmusch street", "Novak Djokovic street", "Federico Fellini street", and naturally, there's even a movie theatre "Stanley Kubrick". I've heard that a film festival was held there last year, and that Johnny Depp came too.
We also visited a real ethno village Sirogojno, where you can see similar wooden houses, but since it's an open air museum, inside each house (e.g. bakery, dairy, potter's) there are old tools and things that people used to make and use to survive, long long time ago.
And to end this very healthy, relaxing week, we went to try a local special dish, fast food called "komplet lepinja", which is a pita-like flat-bread (lepinja) with eggs and rich heavy cream cheese (kajmak) inside, baked and then smothered in lamb/pork roast's juice, basically lard. After surviving this "cholesterol heaven", as Aleks named it, we should have walked back to Novi Sad (just 300km north).😊 Anyway, what a lovely place to see, what a lovely place to spend a vacation and go back home completely refreshed. I highly recommend Zlatibor!
