Christmas Day was fairly uneventful, with the exception of my friend Brian flying into the country. Plans were for him to fly in xmas day and continue with me and my uncle on our journey through hungary and czech republic. So far plans are going to schedule. In Serbia they celebrate Orthodox Christmas, so December 25th was a normal day, once unpacked me and Brian headed out for some coffee and hot chocolate and to wander around some of the markets, we headed home pretty early, as Brian only slept for one hour on the long flight here, so he was in bed around 8:30, me around 9:00.
December 26th, Brian and I were up relatively early as we got to meet with the Governor of the Bank of Serbia, when he asked my Uncle what he was doing for christmas, my Uncle mentioned me coming to town, so the Governor offered to meet us. We met with him for about 45 minutes, talked about economic and monetary policy in the country and then were given a private tour of the National Bank and its museum. After this very cool and unique excursion was over, Uncle Rob headed to work
and we headed out, took the bus and got somewhat lost in a mixed residential and commercial section of Belgrade. We wandered around somewhat aimlessly, and walked around Kalemegdan Fort, unfortunately it was snowing and the paths hadnt been cleared, so our pants were soaked up to our knees. We caught a cab home and changed and headed out for some grub. First we went to Monza, a place that I enjoyed earlier in the trip, we had crab and some salmon thingys, beers and green tea, yes quite the combo. After that we checked out 1 pub, i think it was called Bibis, and then Acapulco, where we watched a live band. From what I had heard Acapulco is a gun-happy club, and notorious for a shady crowd, so heck why not check it out, haha...we entered as the Godfather music was playing, how fitting. After a drink there and not much going on we jetted and planned to go home, but talked to some locals outside, where we were told Amsterdam was a good club. We stopped there and it was packed, so hung out there until about 2 and headed home due to a very early morning.
Today is the 27th and we were up at 5am to catch our 6:45 train out of Belgrade to Budapest, Hungary. From 6:45 to about 2:45pm were travelled through the Serbian and Hungarian countryside, and arrived in Budapest. It is a stunningly beautiful city, great architecture and there seems to be lots to do. Me, Brian and Uncle Rob headed out for a stroll, picked up some miscellaneous items and headed back to the hotel, which is in a very old building but with somewhat of a communist style design (Hungary was communist until 1990.)
The machine here does not allow pics to be uploaded, I will put them up when possible.
