With the platform number now on the departure board we headed out of the cool station concourse onto the frozen platform to find it empty. All the number appearing on the screen means is where they intend to put the train at the allotted time. A short while later the train slowly rolled into the cold dark platform and once stationary all the carriage doors opened almost simultaneously the carriage attendants appeared to stand by the entrances. Realising fairly quickly our coach was at the furthest end of the platform from us. We put on our backpacks and headed the length of the 20 or so carriage long train to find our attendant looking a little bored. Giving her our ID and tickets she ushered us to our cabin and pointed out which bunks were ours. ... read more

I'll try to keep up with Rusian moving into another level... My languages... Portuguese (my native language) is the 6th most spoken language in the world - 250 million speakers. Spanish - wich I dominate since I was young - is the 3rd most spoken language in the world - very useful if you're traveling to South America, West Coast USA (California) or even Europe. Very easy to master if you speak portuguese. English is also teached at elementary until now... Netheless to say it is the most important languange to "get arround" in today's world, doing business or traveling, english is crucial... After an amazing New York adventure with our dear friends, we are finally in Moscow, Russia waiting for a connecting flight to Cairo. We have about 5 hours wait which means great opportunity for me to blog! :) We left DFW on Wednesday at 5pm and after a connecting flight in Atlanta made it to NY at 11:30pm. Our flight to Moscow was not until Thursday at 7pm, and so we decided to make it an adventure. We did not rent a hotel, who does that?? that's boring!! :) We ate Egyptian food from a stand in NY, isn't that funny? It was so good. :) We stayed up all night with our friends and walked all around time square, it was AMAZING!! You have to see it for yourself to believe just how bright all ... read more

And so it was that, after three days spent crossing the vast distance across Siberia from Irkutsk, we eventually arrived back in to Europe. Along the way we had a great view of the Russian countryside and all the local towns along the way. It was often stated during the cold war that both sides had enough firepower to blow the other back to the stone ages. Having viewed a lot of the Russian towns in Siberia and along the route it appears that America would have had a substantially easier time of doing this.
