Cafeteria
I can not believe how nice our cafeteria looked after they got finished decorating it. First of all, I want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. This has to be one of the most toasting countries so let me wish each of you a very healthly, happy, and wealthy new year filled with love and joy for you and your loved ones. This is not my quote, but I found it as I was helping Timoffy (Grandfather Frost) and Dasha (Snow Girl) write their speech for the party.
May your best day this past year be your worst day this coming year! It took me a few times reading it to understand it, but after I finally got it, I thought it was a good toast.
For us here in Russia, it is getting close to the New Year, just under two hours so I thought I would post the pictures from the Holiday Party before heading to the Yolka (Christmas tree) in the center of town. I hear they will have fire works and all at the top of the new year. I know people are shooting off their own all over the place. This is their big holiday! I was invited to go to a party with one of
Vince and Svethlana
This is my current translator. the guys from volleyball, but I did not want him to feel he had to entertain me and his english is not real strong and I was afraid we neither one would have fun so I declined. I took a short nap this afternoon so I could make it until midnight and honestly, could probably go to bed right now...lol
Also before I forget, the guys from volleyball honored me on Christmas as it was our big holiday. It made me feel real good. They had a short simple toast, congradulated me, and all shoke my hand. It was nice. I even got a "pig" as this is the year of the pig. There are pigs everywhere, but I thought it was nice for them to honor me like that.
The Holiday Party was super nice. Probably one of the best I have been to in terms of the entertainment, fun, etc. I was initially told it was for anyone, but later I was told due to an incident several years ago, the plant employees are not invited. I also can not get use to all of the alcohol and if you ever invite a Russian over to
Grandfather Frost and Snow Girl
Grandfather was a little drunk by this time. your house, have twice or three times the amount of alcohol you think you might need. They can drink! It started at 5:30 and was suppose to end around midnight, but I know some stayed until at least 1:30 AM. I left around 11 before anything got of control.
We started off with the food and as you can see by the pictures, they did not hold back on the food. The cost was 500 rubles (~$20) and that include all of the alcohol you could or would want to drink. Throughtout the meal, the directors each gave a toast until it was time for Grandfather Frost and Snow Girl to show up. They did a good job even though Grandfather was a little under the influnce by the time he got up to speak.
After that, they had professional dancers come in while people finished up their dinner, but as you can see by the pictures, most people wanted to get up and see the dancers. Then they started mixing songs so people could dance between the dancers until it turned into all dancing. Dasha put in a request to the DJ to play Jingle Bells and
Balloon Yolka
I may be spelling it wrong, but the Christmas tree made out of balloons at the company party. he called me up to sing a solo. While I was singing everyone gathered around me in a circle and started clapping and skipping around me. It was fun. If I find a "video clip" of it, I will send it to anyone intersted in hearing me "sing" or least for the humor factor...lol
The other funny thing for me was when Oxanna, our Warehouse Manager got up and sang here song. It was too funny and everyone just laughed. I have asked for a copy of the words and will get them translated for you, but it has to do with my eagle eye and complaining about footprints on the boxes (which I usually complain to her about) as well as recognizing me from kilometers away because of my double hair net (one to cover my head and other to cover my beard, yes, I am the only one that does that so I do stick out like a sore thumb.)
Well, it is getting that time here that I need to get going, but I want to again, wish each of you a very happy New Year!
Vince
P.S. Can I put a request

WOW! Looks very entertaining. I'm eagerly awaiting the video and sound clip of your performance though. lol Looks like they go all out to celebrate New Year's Eve. Because fireworks are legal here they too go all out and start setting them off at dark and don't stop until 1 or 2 in the morning. You can't sleep even if you wanted to. I'll work on those sayings for you if I can. Take care and Happy New Year to you too!
