So we leave Bulgaria after a couple of large nights...and I've hardly spent anything. On the road to Bucharest, the Paris of the east and the capital of Romania. An hour and a bit to get across the border and we're on the horse and cart road to the City.
These eastern european countries don't seem to have any direct roads across the borders, it's as if they build roads only for their country and don't really car about people crossing the border.
We also have our next currency change...from the lev to the lei (we had the lira in Turkey so i'm beginning to get confused!! - plus I have all this Bulgarian money that you can't use and you can't change - no one likes bulgarians!!)
You can see why they call Bucharest the Paris of the East. The roads are really wide and landscaped, and the buildings look very parisan. But...it seems everyone is trying to rip you off, you really need to be aware of what you're buying and how much you're paying.
The driving here is still terrible, Toot's (the bus driver) doing a great job of driving the bus along narrow
roads. I heard that they've only recently gotten paved roads outside of the Cities and everyone just drives as fast as they can now. They don't seem to have freeways here so it takes a while to get anywhere. We saw a jack-knifed truck on one of the mountain roads and there are plenty of horse and carts along the way. In fact, some things here are quite primitive....we saw guys cutting verge grass with one of those curved sword things (I can't think of their name) and all of the cars seem to be quite old.
Visited Dracula's castle which is just another castle and drank with Romanians (crazy bogan romanians) at the campsite on one of the nights.
Bucharest wasn't awesome, but we had a great time when we camped out in the other Romanian Towns. Four days in total in this Country, but now we're hungry for hungary....time to start heading west.
