After working in the hospital all morning, I went back to the office to check my mail and then wait for Kayleigh. She sent me a text later to see if I was coming home and if we could go shopping before her big leaving dinner. Apparently there had been a misunderstanding. I went home and we went out to look for something nice she could wear. When we didn’t see anything, we came back in time to change and do our make-up before meeting people at 5:00 at Keller’s steakhouse.
When we got there, only Belinda was on time, so we went in and got our seats. Kyla, Leonie and Connie came soon after. Mikkel texted us to let us know he would be late because he was just now coming down from the mountain in the cable car. When he got there around 5:20, we all ordered quickly because I had a meeting at 6:30 and Kayleigh wanted to go to a show at 7:00. Kayleigh and I both ordered feta-stuffed chicken (it was amazing). We took pictures and talked and laughed. Soon, it was almost 6:30 and we hadn’t even gotten our food yet. When we did, I finished quickly and we asked for the bill. I paid for my part and went off to my meeting. I felt bad leaving because I really wanted to be there for all of Kayleigh’s last meal with everyone, but the meeting was mandatory. I walked/ran most of the way there, and got a little lost at the top, so I called Sharon to help me find it. She came out and showed me the house. When I went in, everyone was already there (of course) and I felt a little awkward because I was dressed up and everyone else was casual. I also felt bad because they had ordered me a personal pizza and I had already eaten. I didn’t realize that the pizza wasn’t going to be communal. Anyway, they introduced me to the volunteers I didn’t already know and then started the meeting. I started to feel rather selfish as everyone went around the circle talking about how much they were getting out of the experience, because for me, the hospital has pretty much just been an excuse to be able to travel. It was also strange because they kept referring to me as the new girl, even though Sharon is the one that just joined with the hospital (although she has spent most of her time with them anyway because of Casey). The meeting went until about 8:00, but then everyone just stuck around to chat. Kyla sent me a text at 8:30 telling me to come meet them for chocolate fondue. I felt bad once again for leaving early, especially since this was obviously supposed to be a time for everyone to meet me and get to know me better, but oh well. I didn’t want to miss my roomie’s last night.
I walked/ran (again) all the way down to Bistro d’Arte and along the way, stubbed my toe really hard on one of the uneven parts of the sidewalk. At Bistro, we had lost Belinda and Mikkel, but added Alison, Lisa (an old volunteer that came back in town for a bit) and Bogdan (Kayleigh’s “Romanian boyfriend” who seems to have all the duties of a boyfriend, but none of the benefits . . . Kyla is also training him as the new social manager). The fondue was incredible! They brought out plates of apples, kiwi, strawberries, pineapple and chocolate cookie sticks. Once we finished off the plates, we then took turns sticking our fingers in the almost empty fondue bowls (so as not to waste any, of course)! Afterwards, we debated going to play pool with Bogdan, but decided to just call it a night.
