Miruna Again Because there were a few sites Miruna wanted to show me, we were off again. HOWEVER, I had to meet Miruna in the middle of the city so I jumped on
BUS 301 and made it to my destination.
I will not be defeated by a bus! Our first stop was a tour of the palace where past kings and queens lived when Romania was ruled by such. It was beautiful but nothing compared to the gold and size of the housing for the Sultans in Istanbul. As Miruna eloquently put it (and properly learned in school), "But the Ottomans stole all the gold from everyone else." The tour in the Romanian palace did have a large display of gold items dating back to B.C. Wow!
Next we went to the History Museum. Unfortunately, photos weren't allowed. Thanks to Miruna, I understand much of Romanian history, dating back to when Rome overthrew Romania. Amazingly, between the trip to Istanbul and my most recent tours with Miruna, I have a much better understanding of world history. I guess I learned some of it in school but that was about as far back as the Ottomans!
Miruna
also showed me where Bucharest began and some of the items they've uncovered in digs. She even took me into an Orthodox church (which she is) and that was about as foreign to me as the mosques were. Very, very formal and steeped in tradition. I wonder what they would think of our worship services.
That ended my tour of Bucharest and most of my stay with Doug.
Oh yes. I had a very pleasant surprise before I jumped on
THE 301 BUS today. Ms. Elana (Doug's house keeper) brought me a piece of lace she had made. It is beautiful.
Nope, Linda, you don't get this piece! She doesn't speak English but did say "America" when she gave it to me. I will cherish it dearly because it undoubtedly took days to make.
