HAy there Its been some time since the last update. Weve been baking ourselves in 30 to 34 C every day from Poland all the way through Chezc ,Germany,Austria and even Switzerland. Weve driven down to the coast of France and back up to the Alantic to spain and San Sebasttion. Then through the middle of Spain to Lisbon in Portugal. There have been a thousand cool things that have happened. Weve had a few miss haps with the van. Bumper fell off, window wipers blew up. We over heated 5 tims in one day going over the alps. The starter motor [View Full Entry]

Well i have made it to southern Portugal. Its a lot more touristy down here, i mean its the beach and a nice one as well although very small. However the water is crystal blue..its amazing. I spent a night in Lisboa, the capital and largest city, but i hate to say it, its trash in my opinion. I got offered to buy drugs 3 times, and to some of you i guess thats 2 times too many. But i just didnt feel very safe there....oh and the hostel smelled like steamed cauliflower. [View Full Entry]

We have been to the far away land of portugal on two occasions now. All within the week! (Its only a 35 min drive) On wednesday we went to the markets in Valenca, in 45 degree heat, so as you can guess we didnt last long! We went camping and sightseeing on the weekend. Got to see A Guarda(in spain on the border), which hosts old galaic ruins, went to the surf beach (afife), but sorry jock, the waves were tiny that day! We went down to the beautiful old city of 'O Porto' where they used to deal all their [View Full Entry]

In the streets of Lisbon, watch out for the thieves and drug dealers. One of them assured us that "Hashish is legal here, itīs not like in England." Yeah, thanks buddy, Iīll believe that when I move... [more]
We took a night bus from Algeciras to Sevilla to Lisbon. When we got here this morning at 6am we were pretty beat so we had a cabbie take us to a "cheap hotel close to the city center" which is exactly what he did. The place looke depressing but we didnīt care much. We hopped in the beds right away and slept for 3 hours, got up took our showers, and we left feeling refreshed. Unlike the place in Algeciras, Hotel Mar, which I would highly recomend, I wouldnīt exactly recomend this place, Hotel Londres. Lisbon is not as developed [View Full Entry]

I'm now back in Lisbon. it's still the same, you go around for so long and is good to get back home, yadayadayada... Well, lisbon is pretty much the same as i left it a few years ago. Some extra subway stations. beer is still cheap. Specially after coming from london or amsterdam or barcelona..... :D nice weather. the movies are still subtitled (i hate dubbed stuff). the beer is cheap, and they know how to pour it. bars open till dawn. and they serve cheap beer. i guess i said this before. hmmm..... well, anyway, apart from a few towns [View Full Entry]

Even though Lisbon is closer to Ciudad Real (where Iīm living at the moment) than Madrid is, we had to catch a train to Madrid before getting on the all-night bus to Lisboa, the capital of Portugal. It was a shame it was dark, since I couldnīt sleep on the bus anyway, I could have been enjoying the drive through Extremadura, the western-most region of Spain and into Portugal. Arriving in Lisbon is awesome in the dark, the city is built on the side of the river mouth where the Tajo reaches the sea, the bridge that takes you across is [View Full Entry]

Lauren - So our trip is officially halfway over but there is still so much to see. We spent the first month in southern Italy, the second month in Spain, and now we're going to attempt to visit about 9 other countries over the next 2 months!!! First stop is Portugal. Our trip from Madrid to Lisbon was definitely a little more tricky than we had planned. One would think that two neighboring countries would have set up a major transport between their two biggest cities, but apparently not. After speaking with some locals we learned that the Spanish and Portuguese [View Full Entry]

Leaving Granada after having arrived less than 48 hours before, we were on a bus for a 12 hour ride to Portugal! To make the trip longer, the Spanish law states that bus drivers must stop at least every 3 hours to keep them from falling asleep, sooooo, we were on and off the bus all day long. Finally we were there by evening where we had dinner, and fell into bed. Laura, Natalie and I still hadnīt caught up on sleep and had a tour to catch at 8 the next morning so we crashed! The next day our Irish [View Full Entry]

The staff in this restaurant near Lisbon was justly proud of its pastry covered fish, which fed the busload of world cruisers who ate there. The food was the best part of our visit to Lisbon.
After leaving Porto Venere and the Five Villages, we spent three days cruising through the Mediterranean until we popped out into the Atlantic Ocean through the Straits of Gibraltar. It's a strange experience to stand on the deck of a ship and look at Europe on the right and Africa on the left. They are only 15 miles apart at the Straits. What a way to learn geography! The Rock of Gibraltar is on the southern tip of Spain, on two square miles (pop. 30,000) owned by the UK. There is a NATO base there now. Across the Straits is Morocco [View Full Entry]
