Howdy y'all!
I don't even know if this is spelled correctly. Whatever.
I was in Bragança a few days ago and this entry is about my time spent there. This town is bigger than I expected, very hot and white. Without a doubt on a hill, but more than one, which made me walk a lot more than I should, 'cause I got lost all the time. Didn't mind the map in my hands... it was too hot to think, so I just kept walking. :)
I stayed for two nights with the intention to see the Natural (or National?) Park Montesinho or an interesting area around the town of Miranda do Douro. I never got to those places, because the buses don't drive during the weekends. So I decided to rest from all the impressions of the previous days.
The peace didn't last long, as I soon met the
inhabitants of the pousada (which btw is fabulous!)- a Slovenian, a bunch of French guys and a kind receptionist Nadia (who let me made my own cappucino, which didn't turn out so good as the milk was warm and I could only make foam in a tall
glass...blah). Jan (the Slovenian) is an erasmus student, which surprised me, because Bragança is so... in the middle of nowhere! So he kept me company through my stay as I discovered the town and the castle. First evening we just walked around and went to listen to an open.air concert of a portuguese band playing a mixture of fado and other music. Interesting! Next day we had a fun night out on the "town", meeting some locals, going to a karaoke club (which wasn't too impressive, as you can imagine:p) and later to a dance club (that one was more relaxing... :D).
I don't think I'll ever forget a big French being interrupted by a "bih lizzard" while playing pool:))) He had to be helped as he was afraid of the cute small animal, which just lost it's way... Oh weel. We continued being extra lazy by the pool and did nothing. Mission accompliesed.
Next morning it was time to go and catch a bus to Vila Real! Another town
behind the mountains a.k.a. Trás-os-Montes.
