Ah, this weekend was Poland, one of my top places to visit. Poland was great, even though it seemed like it ended with everything that could possibly go wrong, going wrong. But, let me start by telling you the good part of the trip. The trip started out fairly smoothly. We got up super early on Friday morning (nothing out of the ordinary here), caught our train to Milan, made it to the airport, and got on our plane. It was hard to find a cheap flight to Poland and after asking a friend how they flew to Poland when they [View Full Entry]

Poland will be our final destination for our motorbike tour this summer. But today was another step in the planning stages. Purchased Adventure Motorcycling Handbook by Chris Scott Worldwide Motorcycling Route & Planning Guide or so the blurb on the front cover says. Hopefully we will find some helpful hints in there. BRATISLAVA - KATOWICE 01.10.08 Km traveled 3040 Jogging early morning, under the rain, with a backpack the size of yourself on your shoulders to catch the 5.54 train, is a MUST for every traveler. So we thought that was a good chance for us to show off our traveling skills. When you choose to take a train so early in the morning, when it's still dark, it means that things are going to be difficult. Otherwise you would have taken the 2.00 pm train! So obviously what should have been just an early morning journey from Bratislava to Katowice, with ONE [View Full Entry]

Sorry for the lateness of this blog entry, although I guess alot of you in the northern hemisphere are on holiday anyway. We have been very busy here in Poland. But before that, Thailand. Once again it managed to deliver. We visited Chang MAi in the North, Train there and Plane back. We managed to do a fly by wire in the jungle. The largest of which was 150m high and 300m long. A kind of flying fox for adults in the tree tops. Bangkok was busy with plenty of shopping and the last day spent at a spa . A [View Full Entry]

Boarding the plane, i was asking myself: am I really flying to Poland right now? Right now I am in the Southernmost part of Africa, and in several hours I will be touching down in Krakow, Poland. It felt unbelieveable, and somehow also just the 'next step' on this journey that is in one sense so planned out and in another so unpredictable and spontaneous. And like so many other moments over the past several months, I found myself saying over and over in my head 'I can't believe I am doing this, I can't believe I'm doing this.....' I have [View Full Entry]

The first thing we do when we land in a new place is to get a street map and try to get ourselves oriented on it. This involves walking around quite a bit to see what's nearby in every direction from our hotel. So far, in Katowice we have seen lots of apartment buildings, one university, a few churches and some shops and restaurants. This place is not geared toward the tourist and so it doesn't have the pizzazz that can be found elsewhere. It's kinda of refreshing actually. Still, Katowice gives us an idea of what urban Poland can normally [View Full Entry]
