A pond on the island
A pond on the island
This was one of the many ponds near the road
It’s been extremely rainy for about two weeks now. However, yesterday we got a break in the weather. I took advantage of the weather and traveled with my professor out to one of the islands outside of Bergen. While he worked on a research thesis with another professor, I walked down the road across a few bridges to another island about 4km away. The weather was beautiful for walking. The sun was shining at it was about 65-70 degrees out. We haven’t had a “warm” day in a while. I leave warm in quotation marks because it’s all relative when it [View Full Entry]

While waiting for our bus tour to start we hit the museums. The last remaining Viking museum lay ahead - the Viking Ship Museum. Did I mention this last time? It houses three exceptionally well preserved Viking ships and the artifacts found with them. Awesome! We also visited the Folk Museum, which is an open-air museum (they seem to grow on trees here), but was quite interesting for it's collection of 16th and 17th century log buildings. That evening we hooked up with our Top Deck bus tour. As it turns out the group consists of about 30 Aussies two kiwis [View Full Entry]

Wow, look at me, 3 days in a row I have updated my blog, I'm so good! lol. Well, today we went over Trolls Passage, wow that was beautiful, snow was everywhere, made it look really nice. We visited Geigranger Fjiord and caught a ferry for an hour to another fjiord, but I can't remember the name of that. Took lots of photos so check them out, not much else happened today, I might leave it for a few days so I have more to write next time. Off to Trondhiem (most religious city in Norway) then going straight to HELL! [View Full Entry]

Andalsnes

Hey there, well, turns out that I was able to use the internet at this place, cool. After I left my blog yesterday, I did some more exploring, I went to find the Oslo Cathedral, but it was under construction and all hidden, I asked a shop keeper about it and they said it had been like that for 2 years, so god only knows what they are doing to it. I had dinner with a couple new people that joined our tour in Oslo, I had Reindeer, it was quite nice. Today we headed to Andalsnes, we had a a [View Full Entry]

Hey, Me again. What have I been up to since the last entry??? Well, we had our 2nd free day in Stockholm. Didin't really get up to much, just a bit lost for a little while, did some more shopping then got rained on. Lucky I had my umbrella! We headed back to the campsite and got changed and headed out for a night on the town. Well, our night on the town wasn't so big, all we ended up doing was going for dinner and watching the soccer which is on every single night in these countries. I'm so over [View Full Entry]

Last night we celebrated the Summer Solstice. It was not an official celebration, but we made one. Stephi and I headed over to Lars’s house around 7:30pm for a Lasagna dinner. We watched the football match between Germany and Russia. Sadly for Stephi, Germany lost. The three of us went out to Garage, one of the local bar/clubs around 11:30pm. It was not as crowded as it had been a few weeks ago when Stephi and I went. We decided to go to Café Opera another popular club. There we met up with Kenneth, his new roommate, and a few of [View Full Entry]

Velkomne tilbake alle! What an intense weekend! Was that a clever opening sentence? Absolutely not. Unfortunately I don’t have much time for being clever tonight. The last quarter-final between Spain and Italy is in half an hour and apparently after three days in Europe I’ve become a futball fan. Anyways, Friday night was a lovely evening if I’ve ever had one. After arrival at campus I met my roommate Josh, whom I requested be French-speaking, and found instead that he’s an alcoholic farm boy from Wisconsin. Don’t get me wrong, I like him a lot, but I was sort of hoping [View Full Entry]

Oslo Chronicles

One word to sum up Oslo: Expensive. By far, Oslo is the most expensive city I’ve ever been to, including London. A dorm bed at the Sentrum Pensjonat, where I stayed, cost over $50USD/night, without breakfast; a hotdog and drink combo, $10USD; 1 way on the city bus $6USD; 1 hour bus ride to the airport $36USD. I was well pleased with where I stayed as it was a few blocks from the train station, the receptionist very nice and helpful, free wi-fi, and a constantly cleaning custodian. My roommate was a computer programming professor from Hong Kong, who was there [View Full Entry]

Yesterday disaster struck. I'd just descended off my first big pass (650m up to the snow line just) in the freezing rain and wind - no probs. I didn't even take a break going up. On the way down my hands got so numb I could barely brake but I got down to the comparatively flat lake at the bottom just a few km from Voss when I somehow managed to crash in most bizarre fashion. I remember a car coming by me on the single lane road, and after that I looked around to see if there was anything else. [View Full Entry]
