Two centuries of Viking raids into Europe tapered off following the adoption of Christianity by King Olav TRYGGVASON in 994. Conversion of the Norwegian kingdom occurred over the next several decades. In 1397, Norway was absorbed into a union with Denmark that was to last for more than four centuries. In 1814, Norwegians resisted the cession of their country to Sweden and adopted a new constitution. Sweden then invaded Norway but agreed to let Norway keep its constitution in return for accepting the union under a Swedish king. Rising nationalism throughout the 19th century led to a 1905 referendum granting Norway independence. Although Norway remained neutral in World War I, it suffered heavy losses to its shipping. Norway proclaimed its neutrality at the outset of World War II, but was nonetheless occupied for five years by Nazi Germany (1940-45). In 1949, neutrality was abandoned and Norway became a member of NATO. Discovery of oil and gas in adjacent waters in the late 1960s boosted Norway's economic fortunes. The current focus is on containing spending on the extensive welfare system and planning for the time when petroleum reserves are depleted. In referenda held in 1972 and 1994, Norway rejected joining the EU. To be updated

Good-bye to Ivana

 Europe » Norway » Østlandet » Oslo
Today the girl we met from Poland is going back home. We met her for coffee to say good-bye. I wrote her a short letter with some Bible verses I thought she might like. We are going to try to get her in touch with a girl from Jesus Revolution that is in Poland so she can get into a church there. Hopefully when we are in Poland next year she can come to some of the concerts and show us around her country. It was so cool being able to spend time with her and seeing how God touched her. Wegweiser auf 1000 m ü. NN
Wegweiser auf 1000 m ü. NN

Since I’ve have been here I have been stretched many different ways; today was no different. I’ve learned to dance, act like and animal and today I was forced to write a poem and share it with the rest of my class. I am pretty sure I have not attempted to write a poem since I was in middle school (haiku perhaps). Our topic was about God’s love for us and so we were told to write a poem expressing our love to Him. So I thought I would share with you my attempt at expressing my love for Jesus through [View Full Entry]

Rainy & cozy

Well today I was planning on cutting my hair but it is rainy & cold outside so instead I am sitting by a window in the house on a couch catching up on my blog (that is why I’ve posted so many entries at once). As I was writing the entry for yesterday one of the guys from my team came up to me and told me something so I wanted to go ahead and share it with you before I forget. Last night right after I got off the phone talking to a friend some people were playing cards and [View Full Entry]

Founded on Prayer

 Europe » Norway » Østlandet » Oslo
One of the things I have failed to mention about Jesus Revolution that is really cool is that they are founded on prayer. We pray corporately at least once a day (sometimes more). Usually praise & worship/prayer lasts one hour but today it lasted 2.5 hours. It is so wonderful to be somewhere that God is really the focus, seeking Him, loving Him, praising Him, interceeding on behalf of others. We even prayed for our fellow Christians. Especially those who go to church on Sunday yet keep the gospel for themselves. We have such an awesome gift but we are not [View Full Entry]

Full day..

Group
This is the group leaving the house (Elisa - America, Dina - Norway, Dora - Hungary).
Today we had our weekly team meeting. I also found out our tour schedule has changed (I am sure one of many to come). Now instead of going to Greece we are going to Siberia (that is such a radical change - it sounds like a punch line to a joke or something). I am actually excited though b/c never in my life did I think I would go to Siberia (I don’t know why but I am excited to be used as God’s instrument there). We may still try to go to Greece and Turkey during an off day hopefully. [View Full Entry]

Children

 Europe » Norway » Østlandet » Oslo
We had a really cool teaching Wednesday night on children's mininstry. It was such a great perspective on children. The couple that spoke have a ministry out of Guatamala focused on children. They were talking about how people don't really aspire to be children's ministers but only use it as a stepping stone but how incredibly important it is. The children truly are the future. He said the reason revivals happen but die in that particular generation was because the fire is not passed to the children. He said God can work just as mightly through a child as an adult, [View Full Entry]

Wanting More

 Europe » Norway » Østlandet » Oslo
Even though I do know I hear from God through His word I just want more. I think that is good, we should all have a desperate heart for Him. Anyway today during our praise & worship/prayer time I was just crying out to God that I wanted more, I want Him, more of Him, to hear Him, to know Him. It seems so simple but I felt like He was impressing on my heart to “keep going, to keep stretching.” I am in the right place right now. He wants me to keep going after Him, keep letting Him stretch [View Full Entry]
