Hello everyone! I was nearly finished a big entry and the connection failed and I lost it so I am in a shitty mood right now! Arrrgh!!!! So I start again....... To give you a quick run down so far I have been traveling four weeks and I have been to Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Sweden and now Norway. I also got to see quite a bit of the far north of Germany which was great. I am in Bergen now. Came here on the train from Oslo on the 13th. It was amazing! Well worth it. It would have to be [View Full Entry]

I finally put some photos up on here...so I wasn´t lying when I said I would do it! I´ve had a few days of trains- I stayed in Narvik for 3 nights and did lots of fun stuff like watching boat races (the "Ofotfjorden Grand Prix 2007"!!!) and climbing mountains! I also went to ANOTHER museum! WHAT is going on with all these museums?! It was interesting though, Narvik was occupied by Germany in the war, because it is an important iron ore port, and the museum was about the battle and the German prisoner of war camps in the area. Vel, kva kan ein seie?

 Europe » Norway » Vestlandet » Bergen
Eg er i Bergen, lånar senga til søstera mi, Maria, og leiter etter ein stad å bu. Dagen etter eg hadde skrive Kibuye innlegget hadde eg takka ja til plass som student ved UiB. Profesjonsstudiet i psykologi. Tenk deg det. På søndag letta flyet og no er eg her. Kjenslene er uhyre blanda. Glad-sur. Bli-bitter. Manisk-depresiv. Og slik kan eg fortsetje. Då er det berre gjere det beste utav situasjonen. Og det var artig å ikkje la noko vite at eg kom, og sjå dei lange anleta på dei som visste at eg skulle være borte dette semesteret. No skal eg [View Full Entry]

Finally Getting Some Rest In Bergen Our final stop in Norway was the decent sized city of Bergen on the west coast. To continue our travel from Balestrand we caught a ferry from just outside our hotel. While the ferry was a really fast one, it still took us four hours to get to Bergen. The trip takes you through a fjord and out close to the Atlantic before heading back west to Bergen. For the most part I slept and read a bit while Kel devoured a book she had picked up at a used bookstore the day before. [View Full Entry]

Really...What
Bryggen in Motion
Playin In The Water

Oslo to Balestrand While we have grown significantly in our travel skills and resilience in the face of new challenges over the last 8 months, there are two scenarios that continue to make Mike and I raise the “uggh” flag: getting up ‘n out really early and long distance train travel. The first is just plain desire for sleep and a leisurely life - early mornings make you kind of on edge, you’re not completely on all cylinders so decisions and reactions are fuzzy and finally, sleep is good. Really good. The second has nothing to do with us being [View Full Entry]

It's really the only word I can think of to begin to describe the sensation of taking the train from Oslo to Myrdal and from Myrdal to Flåm. You slowly ascend through the gentle rolling farmland of southern Norway, thinking "oh, this is pretty". But then you climb into hills and forested craggy mountains dotted with pristine lakes and you say "this is spectacular". And still there's more. You burst into the clouds onto a high plateau of eerie rock and snow landscapes, obscured by rain and mist. Now you say "I have no words to describe this". And STILL [View Full Entry]

American flags drape across Voyager’s atrium and at 9 a.m., passengers stop to sing the National Anthem. No matter the nationality, everyone participates. Earlier in the cruise, we celebrated with the Canadians on their holiday. Alan and I walk down the gangway to find our guide for a walking tour that includes a hike on Mt. Floen, one of seven mountains surrounding the city. Grey skies promise a misty, rainy day, which is typical for Bergen. The walk to the funicular takes us near Bryggen, a wharf area where colorful wooden buildings from the time of the Hanseatic League face the [View Full Entry]

Waterfalls thunder through the fog and mist when the bodyguards board the bus for our overland excursion from Gudvangen to Flam. Kathryn and many other passengers have chosen to stay on Voyager for the scenic ride up the fjord to Flam. The bus drives through a narrow valley, a UNESCO heritage site, to reach Stalheimskleive, a narrow road that curves through 13 hairpin turns in less than a mile. As I peer out the window at the steep drop-off, our guide says, “We have a local bus driver, you are extremely safe.” We wind past the Stalheim Hotel perched above [View Full Entry]

hello again, We have been on the road again travelling between Oslo and Bergen in the west after spending a relaxing evening in Oslo. This time we were a full 10 hours in transit! even outdid our previous trip to Oslo. The journey only looked about 5 hours on the map but we literally took the scenic route. It ended up been an interesting day all the same. The weather was crap but we are getting used to it. it was the breaktaking scenery on the way that it made it so. We took roads cutting the mountainside, descended into [View Full Entry]

Today we woke to glorious sunshine, the first day of good weather since we arrived in Scandanavia. We had a wonderful day in Bergen, our favourite place so far. It is Norway's second largest city, however, it has a very small city feel to it, nestled between 7 beautiful mountains. The streets and alleyways are lined with colourful, wooden house and beautiful flower beds. We visited the fish market on the waterfront which was selling smoked salmon, gravalax, peppered mackerel crab and caviar to name a few, All the fish was pretty reasonably priced, approx 6 USD. We took a [View Full Entry]
