When trying new foods my family uses a rating scale to determine if we will prepare a meal again. It is as follows…
Food Scale
Excellent (Can’t wait to make it again)
Good (Would enjoy eating it again)
Fair (Would eat it again, but not often)
Poor (Would prefer not to put it back in my mouth)
GROSS! (Wouldn’t touch it with a 10 ft. pole)
I’m going to use this scale to assess some of the things I have tried here in Norway. I have vowed to try everything at least once.
Salmon- Prepared with lime juice, jalapeņos, and spices. Good
Wild sheep- No idea how it was prepared but it was Excellent!
Trout- Prepared with spices and covered in cheesy sauce. Fair
Bacon and Cheese “paste”- (comes in a toothpaste looking tube) Poor
Marcel in tomatoes- tastes a bit like canned tuna. Fair
Liver- Spreadable liver to put on bread. Actually tasted a little like meatloaf. Poor
Hot dogs- no they are not the same as in the states. Fair
Black liquorish- Very salty. GROSS! (had to spit it out at the movie theater)
Note: I have yet to try brown cheese. It’s a common sandwich topper. I will try it soon and report back
As I can’t read the labels I rely on pictures and previous knowledge from shopping trips with Kristine. I needed to buy more orange juice, and not knowing the difference I grabbed the cheapest one. The next morning at breakfast Kristine commented that I had bought the orange juice with the most fruit “meat” (pulp). I decided to give it a chance. As I poured, the juice came out as a chunky liquid. I tried it anyway. Disgusting! I’m ok with a bit of pulp, but I don’t think even our high pulp orange juice in the US could come close to this pulpy juice. I immediately gifted the juice to Kristine and decided never to buy that again.
Off to eat some PB&J,
Allison

Well now i see why your family tasted my deviled eggs that were sketchy. You all live live to the edge trying new foods. lol. But i wil do better next time
I would have guessed the hot dogs would beat out the wild sheep!!
Maybe they should make hot dogs from the wild sheep - just a thought from Grandpa Shannon! Love ya !
I'm so glad you are trying everything. It is a good thing that you have found a peanut butter you like. You will definitely want an In and Out burger or a nice burrito when you return home in August. Should Dad and I bring some mac 'n cheese from home?
Is the orange Juice called Applesin in Norway? I thought that is what I remember from my trip to Oslo...
that OJ sounds interesting, but not sure I want my morning ray of sunshine to plop into my glass. Continue to enjoy all the exciting foods of adventure. xxoo
Glad to read that you are trying everything. I remember when I was an exchange student in Japan - now they have some unusual foods! I could hear Aunt Kathleen in my head, "Try Everything - you don't want to miss out on something great!" So I did. And I don't regret it one bit, though there were lots of things that would have faired a Gross on your scale! Have fun!
