On Wednesday Kristine and I walked into town. It was a beautiful walk and the weather was really nice. We grabbed dinner at one of her favorite Italian places. Traditional food is hard to find. We walked by Bryggen a part of the town that contains a few of Bergen's oldest houses. Kristine treated me to a cider beer at an outside bar near Bryggen. While we looked out over the water and drank our beers, Kristine taught me a bit of Norwegian. I can now count to 10 and ask what time it is. I even learned a few sentences including: I want to go up the mountain, but not tonight, and I climbed a mountain. Random I know, but I have been doing a great deal of hiking. I'm planning to learn as much Norwegian as I can.
Yesterday I had a meeting down in the city center. It was another nice day for walking. The weather has been surprisingly nice. There hasn’t been rain for three days, which is very strange for Bergen in the summer. Half of the meeting was in English and half was in Norwegian. When it was in Norwegian, I found myself staring
out the window at Fløyen watching the Fløyen Funicular Railway (tram) bring people to the top of the mountain and back down again. I plan on riding the tram myself, but am in no rush as I have already seen the views by hiking up there. Maybe I will wait for my parents to visit and go with them. Last night I attended a birthday party downstairs for two of Kristine’s friends. I talked to a few people, really just whoever felt like practicing their English with me.
Today I have just been in the lab. In fact, I just finished my work for today and thought I would take a bit of time to write this entry. I share an office with seven other people, most are Phd students. The view out our window is of Fløyen and Ulriken. It’s beautiful and a bit distracting. I started running subjects on my study today. Hopefully I will be able to find more. It will be a bit hard to recruit this summer as everyone is going on summer holiday.
I need to go shopping later, but am dreading it as I know I will watch more of my

money fly away. Things are expensive here. I think I will be eating a lot of PB&J. Good thing I like it :) That’s all for now. I am headed back to Alrek, my dorm.
Go Dag, Allison

Hi Allison,
Looks like you are enjoying Bergen as much as we did several years ago. It is a beautiful old city with lots of charm. Grandpa's favorite spot was the daily fish market. Lots of interesting things to see (and smell)! Enjoy !!!!
Love ya,
Grandpa & Grandma
Hi Allison! Yes, wait for Dad and I to take the tram. We'd love to experience that with you! love, Mom xoxo
I just started reading your blog today. Wow the hiking sounds great! I think you need to learn the phrase "Only 4 more peaks to go" so you can do a count down. Don't forget to choose the best one for your mother to climb. You don't want her to get away with just a tram ride! Have fun!!! Love, Aunt Eileen
Know I've been gone a while, but work has been crazy. I would rather have the view out your window. Keep enjoying and taking it all in. To give you a variety on your PP&J's sometimes make a PP&P ... preserves hee hee :o) xo Auntie Poo
another phrase to learn could be "may I have another serving of fish please?"
