Onto Geiranger, and I had no idea from my map that I'd be making another snowbound climb up to just over 1000m (from about 500m this time). The previous night I had a lovely campsite next to Pollfoss, a huge gushing section of rapids, in a nice fir tree forest (my last midge-free night! but more on that later...) The road up and over to Geiranger was really spectacular with an amazing first view straight down 1000m to the fjord below chockablock with cruise ships. A had a bit of a rest in the town (touristy as hell, but nonetheless a [View Full Entry]

Polfoss... amazing waterfall.

Another great campsite

I pushed on from Trollstigen via Andalsnes. There I got my wheel fixed (170 kroner) and had the good (or bad) luck to notice a slow puncture at the shop. We found the culprit, a little thorn stuck in the tyre. Lucky I guess that we had the wheel apart anyway - but now I've lost my no puncture record. I think I made about 2000 miles puncture-free though - must be some kind of record! That night I pushed on (i had some vague hope about making Trondheim the next day, but gauging distances is hard). Despite coming out of [View Full Entry]

I've arrived safe, but road-weary in Trondheim. I'm going to have a rest day here tomorrow (so I can watch the football final!!!) and then we'll see. I'm thinking about taking a train just a bit to catch up on a couple of lost days. In that way I can enjoy the end more rather than having to race to get there. I should say I have now got a flight booked back home,, from Stockholm to Edinburgh! May sound crazy - but there is method to my madness... you'll see in a bit! Anyway I'm about to get kicked out [View Full Entry]

"Please allow us to introduce ourselves. We are toys of wealth and taste"
We have been out of this World No, that is not true. But when you read about the place dad took us to this summer you might think so. Well, let's tell the story from the start. In the end of this summer dad told us he would bring us to Hell. We thought he was joking of course. There are limits on where you can travel and since Hell is not in this World that is definitely a place you can't go to. We have known that for a long time. Hey, we may only be cuddly toys but we [View Full Entry]

Two days visiting Trondheim Norway is a very nice country with wonderful people and astonishing nature. I like Norway a lot but for various reasons I don't visit our western neighbours very often. But now in August I had both the time and the opportunity to visit Trondheim for a few days so I decided to give it a "go". Trondheim is a city with old traditions. For more than 1000 years there's been a sizeable settlement at the estuary of the Nidelva River in the Trondheimsfjord on the west coast of Norway. A long time ago Trondhei [View Full Entry]

Hell exists!
A hot day in Hell If you have ever been in doubt I can now assure you that Hell exists. I know, I have been there! I can also inform you that it's hot in Hell. So now you know that too. Let's stop pretending why I wanted to go to Trondheim in the first place. OK, Trondheim is a nice town and well worth visiting. But the place I wanted to see most of all was a small village 30 kilometres away. A village named Hell. Because the name sounds so odd in English the village draws quite a few [View Full Entry]

Trondheim is another beautiful city. The nice thing about all the places I visited is the livability factor; great public transportation, helpful tourist offices, everyone speaks English and most things are with in walking distance. I did a quick tour of the town and then met up Idun, Claire and Carleigh Ryan and their friend from Monica. Spent an enjoyable after noon with them before I caught the night train to Oslo. Arrived in Oslo in the morning, sleeping on the train saves a paying for a room as long as you don´t mind missing a shower or two, and it [View Full Entry]

Life on the Fjord

 Europe » Norway » Trøndelag » Trondheim
Staying with the family in Trondheim has been such an amazing experience. Oddney and Ingvar are the sweetest couple. Oddney is crazy with her wedge heels and bright colored clothing--she woke us up this morning by calling up the stairs, "Good moooooorning, my girls!! I tink it is time fo' you to git up!" They were so welcoming to us and even though Ingvar couldn't speak as much English as the rest of the family, he was still cracking jokes and wanting to be a part of every conversation. Their daughter, Janne (yan-nuh) lives right above them with Roar and [View Full Entry]

Oddney and Ingvar's

 Europe » Norway » Trøndelag » Trondheim
Kathleen and I are currently located in a city that's a ferry ride and an hour and half drive through the country from Trondheim. We're staying with Oddney and Ingvar, two vivacious grandparents, in a 300 year old house on the water of a fjord. The house is big, but the ceilings and doorways are very low and I feel like a giant in a dollhouse. I've only hit my head on the ceiling twice today! Oddney is Kathleen's dad's 2nd cousin and Oddney (pronounced UHD-NEE) has a daughter and three grandchildren that live above them. The grandchildren are Iseline [View Full Entry]
