So, we have just arrived home after spending an absolutley perfect weekend in Amsterdam! Let me just start by saying, I much prefer it to Paris. Mark knows the city, and the Netherlands in general really well, having spent the past three years working out there on and off, so this was a very easy trip fpr us to take. It would be fair to say that after day one, Laura and I were exhausted. So waking up at 10.30 on our first day was really an achievement . After solving the usual puzzle of a new shower system we dressed as tourists and headed into the city. As usual Laura was "Little miss photograph" asking me to stop every five minutes to take pictures of me standing next to things or pointing at them looking interested. The third week we were in Nijmegen, we stayed at the Hessenburg site. Huge craters where parking garages would go, an excavator threateningly close to our hardhat clad heads, deadlines, many graves, oil lamps, and coins. The ground was sandy, which at least made for easy digging. While I was walking from my apartment to the city center, I discovered one of the only pick-up trucks I've seen since I've been here. As you can see, it has an unusual company name stenciled onto the side. Golfsurfschool. Hmmmm...... Ok, So I know that I wrote just a little while ago, but I have exciting news. This afternoon some of the other American kids in the program and I went to a park close to where we are staying to play a little soccer. We found some Dutch people that were playing and asked if we could join. Long story short, I was the only girl and I scored a goal!!!! Bright and early on a Sunday morning me and Stuart crawled out from under the warm duvet. We strapped on our backpack and became the turtle people that plague Amsterdam. Hey everyone!!! So, I would just like to write an entry on bikes. Back in the States we generally dislike cyclist, they are annoying and constantly get in the way of all of us in our cars. Well, here it is the other way around. Bikes rule the world here. Everyone rides a bike, and they are not kind to you when you are walking. We have gotten yelled at a few times now because we were in the path of cyclists. No one has suffered any injuries by getting hit with a bike yet, but it is bound to happen. [View Full Entry]
