Hi all, Well i got to Amsterdam and spent quite an enjoyable day there although i was quite tired. My plans to get some sleep before i set off fell foul and by the time I got overthere I was knacked so it was just a brief tour round. I did come accross a couple from Brasil who couldn't speak a word of english, so we really got on well. We met on a canal cruise tour then later in the streets. Yesterday Bram was off of work and his brother Sjef and friend Robbie came to visit us. We went to Scheveningen first to have some Sangria on the beach at Peukie's (It's slogan is "the real American taste" but it reminds me of the word puke which makes me laugh). After that we had a 3 course dinner at a restaurant near the hotel Bram works at and it was delectable. Hey all. Sara just spent an hour writing an update and then I erased it. Way to go jR! Real quick then we have to go....Amsterdam is everything we thought and more. Well today since Bram had to work from 10am to 7pm I decided to take a bunch of photos of where I usually bike. I've started biking to Scheveningen with Bram when he has to work to pass the time and also because I think it's fun. So by going there and back we usually bike around 10km per day. I think the things we pass are pretty cool so I thought I'd post some photos for everyone to see. Keukenhof Tulip Garden, Red Light District, 'Museum', the Flying Pig, Vondelpark, Van Gogh Museum, Heneiken Brewery, Anne Franks House, Memorial Day weekend, GLBT festivities, Leidensplein, Spui Sam and I have had two TREMENDOUS days in Amsterdam. I can hardly believe we're moving on already tomorrow. We got off the plane early Wed morning and spent about 2 hrs sorting out train reservations for the following days, getting to the hostels, etc. We were very glad to be have been able to share rooms with other 'Piggies' from the Flying Pig Hostel =D. I don't think anyone has travelled or worked in the UK without ever having visited Amsterdam. It's one of those 'must see' places, and with good reason. Apart from the infamous 'activities' you can legally participate in, we discovered the city has a lot more to offer..... Saturday 6th May 2006 As usual we had an early start to make use of our long weekend. Hans and Noel had moved since I's last there in 2000. They have a lovely little apartment which they have done up really nicely. We had a classic Dutch lunch of fresh breads, cheese galore, coffee, coffee, coffee, applestroop, hagel, etc then retired for what was supposed to be a 1 hr nap before going to Frans and Monettes for dinner, but we both hibernated for 4 hours! Today Bram and I decided to see more of the Hague since we live here now. We went to a castle that was built in the 1200's called Binnenhof. It was pretty cool, I've got a lot of photos. We went to another castle called Noordeinde (sp?) but it wasn't as interesting because you couldn't really see much of it. We also went to the beach in Scheveningen and had a couple of drinks at a cafe on the beach called Bora Bora. It was a beautiful day so we made the most of it biking all over the city. Zondag 30 april 2006 Naast me ligt mijn grote vriend Alex. Bijna 13 jaar geleden maakte hij mij zo ontzettend blij met z’n komst als puppy, een kruising border collie. Die blijheid is altijd gebleven, aangevuld met een heleboel trots, maar wordt de afgelopen weken overschaduwd door verdriet. Jonge hondjes worden oud(er) en helaas heeft mijn kleintje fysieke klachten gekregen die zijn verergerd sinds mijn vertrek naar Canada.
