Saturday entertainment
These guys were playing some great music. It reminded me of the group that you always see around pike place market or in any of the festivals. I think these guys might also be from peru? So I havent written in a bit because not much has happened. Let's see...
Saturday I went to the market with my mentor Jeffrey. He introduced me to Poffertijes: the most heavenly doughy sugary things ever. I'll definitely go back and take pictures of them. We hung around the market, didn't buy anything. It was raining pretty heavily on and off while we were strolling through the vegetable stands and then all of a sudden, WHOOSH SPLASH!!!! Yep, a liter of dirty tarp water splashed all over my head. I'm not a girly girl, so I'm not exaggerating when I say a LITER (maybe even more). My head was so wet that water poured all down my face and my neck. Lovely.
The rest of the time with Jeffrey went downhill after that as he started asking questions about if I had a boyfriend and such. I am starting to wonder if he volunteered for the mentor job because he found out that I was a girl. Either way, he's a gross Dutch boy and I'll be straight up with him if he tries to do anything fishy.
That evening I went to Nina's house and met Jasper
Mijn Laarzen "my boots"
Yes, they're real leather. I did the kiss test =) and Janne there to watch a movie: Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. If you haven't heard of this movie, consider yourself lucky. I think I'd rather watch the 10 commandments 20 times than watch that "movie" again. Either way, the socializing part was fun and the red wine I bought was hilariously terrible, but hey, for 2 euros a bottle, we all thought it wasn't soo bad. =)
Sunday I found myself getting addicted to the tv series Prison Break. I don't know how many episodes I watched, but let's just say, I got through half of the first season. I read a lot as well and hung around the house, which is what most of the people here do especially when it downpours. Monday went about the same - more prison break and I am officially addicted. More reading, a bit of homework, etc.
Wednesday I went to my class and dutch class. I now know how to form a question using words like "how, when, which, why, who, and what" - along with my "i have no idea" sentance I can now say "what/who/why is that?" I think my Dutch is now comparable to
Mijn Laarzen \"my boots\"
My first pair of leather boots. I feel so adult-like! haha a child of 1.5 years. I also found out in my user support class that I don't have school for 3 weeks! Why? Nobody can explain, but today (Thursday) I went to my multicultural class and it was the same thing. So from next week until the first week of November, I am class free except for one more dutch class on wednesday. This is really summer vacation. I tried to see if the recommended youth hostel in brussels has a vacancy, but they don't. I might give them a call and see if their internet website isn't updated all the time or something because a trip to Brussels would be perfect during those weeks. If not, any suggestions on where to go? I was considering Manchester, England (London is too expensive at the moment) or maybe just to tour around the Netherlands cities like Rotterdam and Den Haag. we'll see, I'm open to ideas.
Today I met up with Lea (my friend who happens to be from Israel and studying here). She's really awesome and we just walked around, did some errands - I needed stamps and q-tips, she needed makeup. We made our way to one of the best stores: The Shoe Outlet: quality shoes and boots for a cheap price. And then I saw them: beautiful leather boots. They were perfect. I tried them on, still perfect. In my head, I'm thinking that is unbelievable because I'm one of the pickiest people when it comes to trying on shoes. Well, as you can see by my photos, I bought them. Best of all, they were on sale for 15 euros cheaper.
All in all, it's been a good week and tomorrow I'm taking the train to Amsterdam until Monday.
Doei! xoxo
