after my stop in Antwerpen arrived in Amsterdam about 5.15pm - as I said before had decided to take my chances. As usual there are hotels around central. Tried the first 3 star and the clown said 200E - for a 3 star - you must be kidding mate! after that they got cheaper - 105E, 94E - then the hotel I decided to stop at, the Hotel Citadel - at 85E for a 3 star - incl. breakfast (which is a plus) but paying for Net - 2 hrs for 3E (not a plus) - so will write off line then upload. She said at desk that rate normally 120E and they tend to go up on the weekend - some business centres, like Brussels go the other way - Hotel Pantone I could not get during the week, but Fri-Sun. was available. Decided that I will take that rate here for 3 more nights - which will take me to Friday - then I will head off to Nijmejen in Holland - and then local bus to Kleve in Germany where the rest of my Uncle Gordon's Lancaster crew lie in rest in Cwlth Forest war cemetery - then
on to Dusseldorf where he was lost.
I must tell you that this room is old style - but has the biggest TV I have ever had in a hotel room - a 40inch or so LG panel on the wall - quite impressive, not that I came here to watch telly! - did see however on Euronews that the Bruxelle summit with the all the polizie presence was Euro/Asia = Azam or whatever with some new guests, Aust. NZ & Russia. They mentioned this but did not credit our Julia - who appeared without voice over on video - how many red-haired female PMs are there?? After sorting this future plan in my head finally headed onto the streets as it was getting dark. Just hada bit of a wander in a straight line so as not to lose my hotel so early!
Was amazed how churasco Argentianian restaurants seem to be almost the local Amsterdam cusine - did not see any "Dutch" cooking but about 8 Argentinian! This was CAU - cucina argentina unica - which was very glam in black and white and background humming sorta disco-ish soudntrak - this definitely got the customers in,
incl. myself - might as well go to a happenin' place full of people rather than a semi-empty place. Had a couple of OK small empanadas (2.50E each) with a glass of Argentinian pinot noir (Cruz de Piedra from Mendoza) - these claimed to be 150ml but looked a bit light to me - and all the Argie single varietals were 6.20E a glass so decided on a simple Barsada or whatever red for 4.50E after that - with my churrasco rump strip which was good - and a small bowl of grilled veges, rather than sour-creamed potato.
Then had a Jagermeister for dessert - had to try one as had not actually had one before and was considering buying a half bottle to carry around for tipple. Did not realise it was a dark liqueur - thought from the green bottle it was likely clear. Then wandered around checking out the sex shops (not) and the cannabis seed shops etc before back to the hotel to blog. THE END.

Hotels and more.
Hi Mike, Boy they tried to top you up with the hotel prices! The "Argie Bargies" seem to have the hold on the local restaurant scene. Your meal and desert sounded good! Love Huddo.
