firstoff, sorry for getting behind on these things, truth is dustin and i have been on pretty much a complete bender for the last 10 days and i rreally havent had gotten around to catching up... so here it goes... alright everyone... where the hell do i start. i guess the best thing to say before anyone reads this blog is this.... if you dont want to read between the lines of this blog... dont (mom, dad, grandmom, grandad, ect.) i think that our buddys from philly best described amsterdam as the city of walking zombies... whatever it is though, if anything else, its a complete mindfuck. the citys traffic patterns dont make any sense (or at least it seemed that way).. its just a jumbled free-for-all of trams, cars, bikes, rickshaws, ect. i felt like you had to do a complete 360 degree turn before crossing a street... crazy.
So i arrived on march 29th after spending a week with sarah in belgium and france. Dusty got in the morning of the 30th, so i figured i would take the first night easy, detox from the previous 10 days, so i could be fresh for what i knew was
going to be a loooong next 10 days. after finally finding the hostel, i decided to wonder the city a little and find a place to get some food. after stepping out of the hostel there were about 20 chinese food restaraunts in either direction ofthe road. i guess the chinese found a niche market in the city of stoners.. def a good buisness plan. anyways, because i was actually sob at the time, the food looked alittle sketchy so i kept walking. turns out the hostel is no lie, 2 min walk to the redlight district, all i want is a freakin kabab, and all of a sudden im getting straight harrased by prostees. (i will say this to put some minds at ease.... NO PROSTEES got any buisness from me at all... promise) so i figured the redlight district prob doesnt have the best food in town so i got the hell out and ended up settlin for a baget sandwich... which is basicallz what i lived on in france so i choked it down. was pretty tired after that so i hit the sack and waited for dust to arrive to get crazy.
The next morn,
amsterdam3dusty.. real excited to be in the land of hieneken.
i got up around 11 walked down to reception just as dusty was gettin in so he put his stuff away and we went out got some food, some drinks and figured out what our plan was going tobe for the next4 days... little did we know then, its pretty much impossible to have a long term plan in amsterdam, and we prettx much just wasted our time. we did decide though (bc of the great advice from ac, mo, bart, and coppy) to hit up the heiny museum that day. talk about a shitshow. the tour is self guided, and they give you tokens for 3 free drinks. dust and i pretty much blew through the tour in 10 min. and headed straight for the bar at the end of thetour. 3 drinks turned into prob about 20 after dust and i got our pic taken guest bartending, and i found the stash of free beer tokens. i stuffed my pockets with prob 50 tokens, and for the rest of the time at the bar dusty and i were the ballers of the bar... buying rounds for tables, tossing the bartenders chips as tips... a complet blast. we stayed
amsterdam4about comparable to the amount of free beers we drank.
there for about 3 hours. aafter seriously milking heineken for all that they were worth, we stumbeled out with some people we met at the bar and decided "when in amsterdam.... do as the amsterdamers do".... lets just say, i think we bit off a little more than we could chew at "cafe paradise" and ended up back at the hostel, passed, by 8 oclock.
one funny side note to this is that we were hangin out with this kid we called mizzo cause we forgot his name but remembered he was from missouri. anyways, we met him at the heiny museum, but after cafe paradise dust and i forgot where we had met him and got so sketched, and ended up straight ditching him while he was in the bathroom or something... dont really remember. felt kinda bad in the morn, but oh well.
when we woke up in the morn. we had def had a full nights sleep, and itwas my bday, so we decided to get some food, drink some waters, andget after it. both of us agreedthat we had learned our lesson and that we should def pace ourselves. so we did just that. allday
amsterdam5guest bartending at the heiny bar... note dusty's is actually just water... what a bitch
basically we wanderedthe city essentially lost, but we didnt have any real direction anyways so it worked out. after seeing what we felt was a deece amout of the city (prob 3 blocks) we headed back to the hostel, and met a bunch of kids from philly over here on spring break. for a couple hours we just hung with them, played drinking games at the hostel bar, and then they went out to some concert and dust and went to take a power nap before the night.... our power nap turned into drinking a bottle of soco with 2 girls and a guy from univ. of kentucky who were stayin in our room. turns out it was the guy, carters bday also...21st. this was def a means for celebration. after showering up and pregaming, we filled up some coke bottles with soco and coke and headed to a sex show (also reccomended more particularly by barto) we did, however, after hearing horror stories, make a pact not to call eachother out to be a volunteer in the act. the show was hillarious, dontthink id pay 20 euro to see it again but, def a must see while in amsterdam.
amsterdam6our friends from wales... and sketchy mizzo
we kindof barhopped after that, blacked, bucked, and passed. turns out the girl liz we were with ended up losing her passport that night.. which as of when they left at 7 the next morning, was still lost.... shitty.
the next day was a more chilled out day, wandered the city a little, actually went to the anne frank museum... pretty cool actually, then sat down outside at the bulldog cafe, drank and watched the most unbeliveable street preformer i have ever seen. the guy was a soccer juggling god. he actually climbed up a light post while juggling the ball on his head. hung from the post and kicked the ball from his head, over the lights to his feet, and then back to his head.... litterally blew my mind. we met some guys from michigan who had just got into amsterdam 3 hours before... were obviously getting into the local delecacies of the city, and 5 min aftere they left, we realized that one of them left thier passport on the floor! so i chased them down, found them in burger king... figures, and gave it back to the kid.. he had no idea it was missing.
amsterdam7cannabis college "garden"... dusty took this pic, i was never near marijuanna.... ever
the guy almost cried he was so happy, i told them it was gonna be a looooong next couple of days for them, they laughted then came back to the bulldog, and bought dust and i rounds of drinks.. not bad. that night we met up with the kids from philly and went to a sports bar to watch the florida, georgemason final four game. we also stopped at a traditional dutch bakery.
we'll leave the last day up to the imagination, but ill just say that by the end dusty and i were sooooo ready to get out of amsterdam, my body was actually CRAVING sobriety. we hopped on an 8 oclock overnight train, and headedto munich! all in all i def feel the score was ro and dusty 5 , amsterdam 2.
amsterdam8carter and liz dusty and i on my (and carter's bday)
