Happy New Year!
Just an interim 'postcard' entry to wish you all the best for the new year.
I saw out 2009 at a free outdoor concert at the Museum-plein in Amsterdam, from which I considered going home early because it was so cold (it started snowing lightly a few minutes before midnight) - but which I'm really glad I stayed for. Not to mention the gluhwein, olibollen and waffles...... ;-)
The firecrackers I had heard throughout the day were nothing compared to the street party Amsterdam put on after the countdown - it sounded like canons were being let off all over the city, a fireworks display all the way home.
I have enjoyed Amsterdam, been really impressed with the genuine kindness shown by everyone - from train station and hotel staff, to whichever random person you stop on the street to ask directions, and the fact they all seem to be bilingual. Impressive.
One more day here before going back into transit mode: next stop Austria.

明けましておめでとうございます！
アムステルダムのミュージアム・プレーンでの無料コンサートで2010年を迎えました。とても寒くて（零時直前に少し雪が降り始めた）早く帰ろうと思ったけど最後までいてよかったです。ホットワイン、オリボレン（油で揚げた丸いお菓子）も良かったです。
カウントダウンの後の路上パーティは一日中聞こえた花火の音よりもずっとうるさかったです。帰り道町中大砲を打ち上げているような花火大会でした。
アムステルダムを楽しんでいて、駅員さん、ホテルのスタッフ、道を歩いている人も本当に優しくて感動しました。皆がバイリンガルのようで印象的でした。
オーストリアに出発するまで後1日しかないです。
今年が皆にとって良い年になりますよう。。。
