Waiting for pancakes Ahoy!
Today has been a good day, but started out slow. I didn't get to sleep last night til after 3, so I didn't wake up til after 11am, but fortunately everyone else had a slow morning as well so breakfast was really only just starting. Pancakes were yummy, but a little different from how I make them, they were pretty doughy, a lot thicker and not fluffy. I'm going to make pancakes for them as soon as I get a chance.
After breakfast, there was a bunch of lazing about. Mariska was trying to avoid painting her room at her house, Marit and Jesse were studying, but Marit offered to go to town with me so I just relazed for a bit til she was done, Jesse came too. We wandered downtown, I now know the FAST way to get to the station, not the one that is completely silly and zig-zagged. It is in fact a straight line, one which I apparently completely avoided. But anyways we went and wandered downtown, through the newer part which is not very interesting or pretty, to the older parts, to the old part of town near the market,

Provider of the Pancakes lots of cobblestone and theres the old city wall and its very beautiful. I just love the streets and alleys, and theres so few cars, because really you can walk quickly to just about everything you need, or you ride your bike which is very fast. As we were crossing one of the bridges I took a picture of what looked like a bike parking lot, it was really surprising, I don't think theres that many people on a bike on all of Vancouver Island in one day.
There were a lot of little alleys we just wandered. Jesse and Marit pointed out lots of little shops and bookstores and good restaurants. Marit bought some fries from a "friture", a shop that just sells fries in the city centre, apparently on a busy day in the summer the shop we went to sometimes has lines all the way out into the square. I bought some bread and some gouda and shared with Jesse, oh yummy yummy cheese. I think if I gain weight from this trip I'll be able to blame the cheese, seriously I'm going to have to show some restraint because it's SO yummy. We sat

Also waiting for pancakes under a statue of a guy holding a flaming rod, Johannes Petrus who invented gas light, and ate our cheese and bread and talked about fast food. Theres a mcdonalds across the square from where we were; All I could think of was ewww. Theres so many yummier places to eat here, like the fry place right next door.
Dinner tonight was mashed potatoes and cabbage, all mashed together, with some mustard and something else in it, was surprisingly delicious actually, considering my usual opinion of cabbage. I actually had seconds, though I still feel stuffed. Had some sausage with it, very nummy.
So I didn't get pictures of the house, forgot to again, so I'll do that tomorrow; I want to show everyone the stairs of death. I haven't fallen yet but I'm
very very careful every time I go upstairs or downstairs. Fun while I've been dizzy last little while.
I'm feeling a lot better after dinner, but still I think I need a good nights sleep. Tomorrow is a big market day at the city centre, so I want to be out of the house in the morning and go wander
Pancakes
Pancakes... so yummy. Yes that is maple syrup, blackberry jam, mustard, a kind of feta cheese, butter, peanut butter and pepper around the pancakes, as condiments. around, now that I know how to get around a little better and feel a little more confident in my ability to find the house again. Hopefully it'll be nice out tomorrow; today was cold, and it was just barely snowing, just teeny snowflakes, you could barely call it 'snowing'. I've decided that I want a scarf; everyone has these wonderful knitted funky scarves, big warm ones, and they're really pretty and I want one. Other than some rechargable batteries for my camera and the food I bought today, I haven't really bought anything, and I'm glad because there's nothing I really need. I'm very content just wandering around, not really in a shopaholic mood. If I have money left over at the end of my trip I'd love a copy of Harry Potter in Dutch, just for kicks. That'd be so cool. Apparently Marit and Alice (Joel's gf) and some other friends of theirs are Harry Potter fiends as well; when a new book comes out there's a street that gets all decorated like Harry Potter shops, and people dress up and do fortune telling and palmistry and read tea leaves, and that sort of thing. All I wish
Tobi
Tobi makes noises like a disgruntled bear in the morning. I greeted him with a hearty rendition of "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows" is that a new book was coming out in the next month because that would be SO MUCH FUN. Some of these streets would be just perfect too, just like Diagon Alley should look like. Oh that would be so much fun though!
I didn't think I'd be blogging every day; I probably won't after a while, it's just that right now theres so much that is new and exciting and interesting. There's just so much to talk about! I should have some good pictures tomorrow, I'll try. I'm still getting used to this camera too.
Thats all for today. I miss everyone at home, and I'm having a great time, despite all my whining about being tired :P yes it's great here, everyone is wonderful, I met Akshay, guy who hangs out here a lot when school's not in, he plays World of Warcraft on the other computer upstairs here. Another person came over today, one of Jesse's friends, I think his name is Daniel. Sings and plays guitar like a madman, very talented. Things are pretty mellow here; I'm feeling pretty tired still tonight so I'm a little quiet, but that's okay. Just such
Sidewalk Entertainment
We were watching people from the window. We applauded a lady parking her car, scared some pedestrians, and then had a clapping concert for the whole street. We hid behind the plants when we saw creepy people. a fun group of people, and the house just feels very welcoming and comfortable.
I heard rumour of apple crumble downstairs; I think I must investigate.
in search of dessert,
