“Money makes the world go around, the world go around, the world go around…” We have discovered over the course of the past two weekends that there is a lot of truth in the lyrics of this song from Cabaret!..... We have visited the Monaco and the Monte Carlo Casino!
Right from the moment you step of the train at Monaco, the money and opulence are evident. The buildings are marvelous, the gardens are all perfectly manicured and the boats in the port are the biggest I’ve ever seen!
As for the casino, one of the world’s first major casinos, it is famous for it’s glorious architecture and appearances in many Bond films. Sitting at the adjacent bar, we sure did see many James Bond wanna-be’s and Bond like cars do laps around the circuit!
The inside of the casino is just as glamorous as the outside, with an incredible entry, mile high ceilings and chandeliers. There are lots of gaming tables and pokie machies too.
Having never played at a casino in my life, Nick undertook the task of teaching me the rules of roulette. On our first
visit, we put down what for most fellow visitors was probably a miniscule amount all on red…. For that moment whilst the wheel spun, the anticipation was fun, but losing our money certainly was not, so we high-tailed out of there. On our second visit, we again forked out a miniscule amount but Nick’s random pick of the number 23 won us a whole stack of chips, which allowed us to play on with success and buy what would otherwise have been a very over-priced cocktail. We certainly didn’t break the bank, but we did walk out ahead!
After our visits to Monte Carlo there is no doubt about what makes the world go around? It’s that clinkin’ clankin’ sound!
