June 9th - Orhid
Today was an elusive search for sunshine. This town and the surroundings are beautiful, but I just love sun. I thought that by June it would be well unto summer weather, but I guess I should have done a bit more research as it was chilly an rainy almost the whole time there.
We didn’t have any definite plans, but just wondered throughout the town checking out all the nooks and crannies. After a disappointing lunch in the newer part of town we headed down to the lake front to walk along over the monasteries on the northern-western(maybe?) point. We had some excitement when the sun popped out for a good 15 minutes (that’s when most the pictures were taken) but some angry looking rain clouds and a cold wind soon showed up to dash our hopes for a nice day.
The monastery was great as well as the walk to get there. The trail went along the small cliffs along the lake front and we got some great views over the sunshine drenched Albanian cost on the opposite side (only adding to my anticipation to get there). Inside the monastery was so peaceful and
one of the few places where I actually felt spiritual (it takes a lot for me) The guide tried to explain to me in French about the history, but my French was too pathetic to get any real information. He was however so excited that we were interested in the monastery that I pretended to understand it all least I damped his enthusiasm.
On the way back our luck with the weather bottomed out and we were caught in a downpour in the main street. It was a warm rain though and I had a great time goofing about in it with Claire, I thought for a second that maybe we were going to kiss each other, but I hated to do that in public as I didn’t know the PDA rules here (not to mentioned whether or not she reciprocated my feelings!)
This ended up being one of the best days of the trip- a lot of fun!
