This is only my small observation concerning formal leadership. Working for AIESEC in the last 4 years was the greatest experience that i have had, but during the last year i met some very interesting situations in conferences that i have been and i would like to stop on one. In October i had a short notice (3 hours before) training on leadership, now what happened is that i had a room with 80 various people from 9-10 countries but all connected by AIESEC, most of them with leadership positions in the organization. The actual training was more about identifying leadership style in ordinary people, but the biggest shock was when i took the expectations and realized that MOST of them had no idea about what leadership is and how you work with it and ... read more

I was having this thoughts the other days about how people lead other people and about the kind of "leaders" i met during the last 3-4 months. Most leaders that i have seen lately are afraid to step out of their comfort zone, they tend to "play safe" and see where the road takes them in stead of making at least small risks that could bring so much more. Now, observing these in the last months made me think and i started researching a bit my past to see where are the "risk takers" and what is my position to them now. What i have seen is that lately i haven't really met people that will actually take decisions out of their comfort zone and more i have more appreciation for some people that took ... read more

Uh, 2 months from the last post, some things happened during these months, so i decided to write at least two posts today. I am in Coffee Inn, a small coffee bar in one of the most known streets in Vilnius, the office is out of internet and this place makes me feel like writing. I will start with the month of September. First, to remember moment was "Discover 2007" for AIESEC in Vilnius, nice conference with loads of new members and alumni. The conference was about 30 KM away from Vilnius. Lucky me, i was chairing this conference and i got to know the new mwmbers of AIESEC in Vilnius, alumni and i got to connect with the old members. Let's say that this conference was the start of feeling comfortable in Lithuania and better ... read more

So, in my AIESEC Career i had the opportunity to chair the "Global Village" of Euroco...how could i say no? Euroco 2007 was organized by AIESEC in Vilnius, and because i mentioned AIESEC Vilnius... Congratz guys and Girls you have done a great job... So the External Global Village took part in "Europa shopping Center" a modern MOL in the center of Vilnius, The pictures will tell you a lot about the Location. About 30 countries were there, the general feeling that i had is that GV in AIESEC is loosing it's value, is like the LCPs were out of order and not so prepared for an External Global Village. But after all i had a great time with the 2nd Chair...Kotrina from Kaunas, and 3 Crazy nights out with the delegations, Jonas, Deny, Lauras and ... read more

June 2005 Welcome to the most central city in Europe - at least that is what the National Geographical Institute of France published in 1990 - Vilnius. A large city with an almost village like feel to it and another Eastern European melting pot, as a result of the regular transfer of ownership over the centuries. The population today still contains a large proportion of Poles and Russians and has an architectural style somewhere between Italian baroque and Soviet social housing. It also has the largest Old Town in Europe and whilst it is easy to overdose on Old Towns in modern day Eastern Europe, this one is worth a look by anybody’s standards. The mechanics of getting into town are easy - no need to get a lesson in Eastern European economics from a local ... read more

So. Lithuania...... after Riga we had finally met up with people that were going our way. Karen from Canada, Ally from Australia, Ken and myself had caught the bus to Vilnius. All these cities had the same sought of attributes, beautiful old city centres and massive developing tourism trade. Vilnius did not let us down. The advantage to this place was the local population also shopped , ate and drank in the old town, not just us tourists! I think overall I much prefered Vilnius to Riga....it had a much more relaxed vibe, cleaner streets, smaller and not quite as busy. Hostel we stayed at was nice too (VB Hostel) - a stones throw away from the old town. We tried the specialities of Lithuania, including these very solid potato dumplings made out of potato in ... read more

Geo: 54.6896, 25.2799Not much was planned for today - but we did need to kill time until our night bus. Today wasn't my day - I spilled juice all over my journal at breakfast, and then I ripped the curtain in the room. For a brief moment, I knew what it felt like to be Mary ... We took our backpacks to the train station to store them for the day. On the way out of the old town, a nice old guy told us "You're going the wrong way - Vilnius is that way!". It was pretty funny. Mary left me in the dust! I couldn't keep up with her on the uphill stretch - my calves were on fire and were beginning to cramp. I was pretty impressed! I can't believe she maintained that ... read more

De eerste dag in Vilnius dwalen we vooral rond in ... read more

Geo: 54.6896, 25.2799On the bus to Vilnius - Mary saw a Spaniard that she liked. We speculated that he is Fernando's younger brother and dubbed him Pedro. We arrived at Litinterp - I guess I forgot to confirm our booking, because they had no reservation for us. Luckily, they could still provide us a room. Unluckily, there were no hotties like the ones from Klaipeda working at the reception. We checked out the accommodations - better than Kaunas, but not as nice as Klaipeda's. Time to sightsee. Mary Moment #47: Mary told me that the thought of sausages gets her very excited. I wasn't sure if she was talking about the ones being served by a street vendor ... or something else ... While visiting the cathedral, it began to pour. We hid inside until it ... read more

We had a nice long sleep in again today and neither of us particularly wanted to get up. When we did get up we headed across the city to the bus and train stations to plan our escape route to Poland. Turns out whichever route we take we're spending the full day traveling. We went for dinner back at the veggie restaurant. Rob finally got his falafel, and I had a vegetable crumble, all very satisfying and yummy. During dinner we booked our hostel in Warsaw. We're going back to dorm life, but hopefully it'll be slightly livelier than Vilnius. After dinner we had a gentle meander around a square we hadn't seen before. We made a decision to try walking to the Coke Cola Plaza again. We didn't really have anything else to do, so ... read more
