Latvia Baby, and straight to La Rocca
The Place - 7/10
The Local Ladies - 9/10
The Nightlife - 8/10
Tune of the Trip - Benassi Bros - Every Single Day We (Daniel, Olga and I) arrived at Riga airport early from our flight from Tampere, Finland think it was about 10.pm.
We quickly got are luggage and jumped in a taxi and headed to our hostel, the first time I ever stayed in one .
On arrival was not to impressed after the luxury of the hotel we had in Tampere the previous night!, the women working there was a very large scary lady who could only say "please" in English and used this work for everything which was quite funny, we got in are rooms they where ok, well for £12 but I instantly decided I was defiantly going to La Rocca even though Daniel and Olga would not go.
So jumped in the shower and headed off after a quick lesson from Olga how to order my favourite drink in Latvian "not sure how its spelt but pronounced "vi-en-o dou-ball-ta vodka cola, ludues, (one double vodka cola please !!).
I thought I
knew the way but got slightly lost on the way down some well dodgy streets so had to ask a local couple for directions with my very little Latvian I know, but they understood, 10 minutes later was there back in my favourite club out side Ibiza.
The first song as I walked into the dance room was the all time La Rocca classic "Every Single Day" thought quality I ordered my first of many Double Vodka Colas using my newly learned Latvian and it worked !!. Then had a look around the club for some people to join , spoke to a few people from north London , but they where typical rude boys so left them to it,
Had a few drinks with some other people from London a top geezer called Manny , we admired the local ladies , and I noticed the receptionist from Hotel Best had a quick chat with her but she wasn’t much interested, lol,
Thought I needed a stronger drink so got on the Absinth , don’t know if it was the drink making me huliousonate but as soon as I drunk it a load of Scots with trational dress
walked in all on a Uni tour , so I joined in with them showing them around the club.
Had a quality night dancing and getting wasted making new friends , but at about 6am thought I better get home as had a long day ahead and had to work that night as well, so headed back to the hostel.
Slept in till 11, got showered and then headed off to Tika where Olga lives to leave our bags , then Daniel dragged us off to his favourite place Double Coffee, where I was so thirsty I drunk 2 large pots of tea and an orange juice in no time at all, we sat in this place for about 2 hrs. I was recovering and Daniel and Olga where just being loved up, after I had re-hydrated we all headed into the centre of Riga to do some Sight seeing, the usual sights but all good, I stopped of to get my travelling badges and some other stuff, then walking to a main square I found an outside ice skating rink. I was well impressed not been ice skating for about 15 years so begged Daniel to let
us go on he said ok but Olga wouldn’t.
I was impressed as it was real Ice and a pretty large area as well , seeing the price was only £1 as well for an hour made it even better !!!!!!, me and Daniel got our skates on and got on the ice it was well scary as had no idea how to ice skate or keep my balance on these things and everyone else on the ice going down to young kids looked like pros as out there its there national sport . After a few trips around the ice I got more confident and after a few wipe outs (as seen on the video, lol) could let go of the edge and head off into the middle, now I no way saying I can now ice skate but thought I did ok for my first real attempt at it, after an hour of good fun we headed off back around the city going to Hotel Latvia , as a pint in the skyline bar was much needed after all the exercise.
Was pleased as I walked through the restaurant as my favourite head waitress was working from
last time the one me and Clive called Head mistress,, ,lol, gave her a smile then, up in the glass lift 25 floors up, the view was so good and the atmosphere in the bar was one like Ibiza, completely Chilled with low funky house music playing, I could of spent all evening up here but sadly after an hour we had to head back to Olga’s to get our bags.
Olga’s mum was showing me all her pictures of her family talking to me loads in Russian not understanding I could not understand a word she said,, lol, but I just nodded and said ja ,lol,. after saying good bye we got the trolleybus to the centre , where Daniel said goodbye to Olga , and then we both taxied it to the airport , where we checked in and headed to the departure lounge, I saw loads of people from la Rocca the previous night so said hello to them before boarding are flight home we got the front seats which was cool as we could stretch right out, and smile right at the 2 cabin crew we had in front of us two very attractive ladies
one from Finland , and think another from Spain, I was really surprised as I slept most of the way home only walking up when a noisy fat air hostess from the back was talking to loudly to the lovely ones at the front, we got back to Stanstead then had to Warrior it, sprinting to passport control as I had to get to work and was glad we did as the queue was ridiculous it took over 30 mins to get through the mass of people was unbelievable, we got are bags then parted are ways as I had to go to work and so did Daniel he headed straight into London , Another trip over and a great time had , experienced driving in the snow on the wrong side of the road, walking on frozen lakes, clubbing on my own (which is never bad as I make friends easy) and ice skating properly for the first time ever a great weekend in all wish I didn’t have to come back as there was bad news waiting for me, ,,, Next trip 28th April mini 9 day tour of Europe staring in Croatia . I finally got to
work at 01.45 only 3hrs 45mins late, lol,
