Italy's stunning Mediterranean coastline and climate make it a popular destination to travel to. Rural towns offer a glimpse of traditional Italian life, whilst the bustling cities provide stunning architecture, world-famous landmarks and a vibrant nightlife. Structural remnants of the Roman Empire scatter the country and a visit to a traditional Baths is a must.

Italian cuisine is world famous, and the variety and freshness of Italian produce will make any mouth water - before the ingredients even reach the chef's pan. To work up an appetite, the Italian coast provides opportunities for sailing and water-sports, whilst the northern mountain regions offer excellent skiing destinations.

From Rapallo we travelled onto Pisa, toured Rome, before arriving in Naples. We stayed a couple of days in the small coastal town of Sorrento near Naples (lovely place), and were looking to commence our travels once more. The plan this time was that we would catch an overnight train from Naples to Florence, and so saving money on a hotel, as well as time travelling. But this was not good enough for a couple of master budget savers like us. No, we would go one step further and not book an overly expensive sleeper ticket, but instead catch a standard [View Full Entry]

10 days in Italy staying in Rome for 5 nights before moving to Florence for another 3 and ending in Pisa with a visit to Pompeii, a drive through Naples and a quick stop in Sorrento. Rome The city founded by the twins Romulus and Remus is full of famous tourist sites and follow the tourist trial we did, seeing all the usual sites: The Roman Forum, The Colosseum, The Vatican City and Sistine Chapel, The Trevi Fountain and The Spanish Steps. For someone from London, the centre of Rome is small and everything is easily reachable by foot. The Roman [View Full Entry]

An eternal dream of mine has finally come true! Or actually, two in one: 1.) Lerning Italian 2.) Going to Italy! Some months ago, Hane and I had the Idea to go to Italy. He, to make progress in the language, me, to make the firt steps. So I found this language institute (www.culturaitaliana.it) in Bologna, in the heart of Italian cuisine: The region Emilia Romagna. Upon arrival, I used spanish to communicate with the locals. After Bologna, this changed for ever... I will remember this special summer in Italy for many reasons: - The early morning cappuccino in the bars [View Full Entry]

O Sole Mio! Europe » Italy » Veneto » Venice
My trip to Venice was short, but wonderful! I was working in Oberaudorf, Germany and we had a few days off, so we travelled to Italy. Our first stop was Verona to see an opera and then off to Venice. We only had one day to experience Venice, but what a day this was! I was with my dear friend Daniel and we spent the day walking around Venice. We saw the sights and enjoyed some beautiful weather. Not much money to do anything, I did splurge on a Gondola ride. It was worth every penney! In the evening, we had [View Full Entry]

Our Honeymoon Europe » Italy
Paris, France; Venice, Italy; Florence, Italy; Rome, Italy; and Sorrento, Italy Our two weeks in these two countries were amazing! Venice is the absolute most amazing city on earth. The romance, beauty and feeling of the city is unmatched. Music just seems to be in the air there and every time you turn a corner you are faced with something even more beautiful than the last. One of our favorite memories is sitting in St. Mark's Square as the sun went down and sharing a bottle of wine (or two) as the bands played classical Italian music. There is nothing like [View Full Entry]

Panic in Enna Europe » Italy
After arriving by train, I found myself stranded, with a cabbie telling me for 10 euros he'll take me the 6 kilometers (he told me 3 times how far it was) to enna. Not this cat. I could see 5, but 10? that's a rip. So I asked at the station if it was ok to leave my back pack there (as that usually works out ok) and with my little day pack started the hike up the hill.... wow..... awesome sicilian countryside. needed that after 4 days in Palermo, 4 days in naples, and 2 days in rome. Hmmm, but [View Full Entry]

Countryside on the way to Enna
It's a loooooooooong way to walk
View from Enna

Approached the ferry building/dock hours before departure. A lone traveler was sitting there, waiting for the ferry to Sardinha. He was a German, who was traveling by bicycle. I envied his independence. If I had the time, I would have gone with him. But time restraints would only allow me to go one place or another, and I had to return to Palermo. Had been there a few years earlier when a friend of mine took me from one side Sicily to the other... but it was a rushed trip, and I knew I needed to return when I was on [View Full Entry]
