while you may have thought we were dead because you have not heard from us in a LONG time (haha like 4 days) we are actuall alive and well playing on a farm and become the masters of the weeds!
our flight into italy was at 6:45am and we watched our shuttle to the airport drive away without us, so we had to get a taxi with a couple of other ppl that also missed it cuz the trip was 144 euro! so when we finally got into italy we took the metro to the bus station, which was closed because it was sunday! of course right?!? not a whole lot of people here speak english and we were both about to cry because we were so lost. we finally got ahold of the woman running the farm and she told us which bus to take but we couldnt understand her directions of where to get off so she told us to let her talk to the bus sdriver. but he was a butt and wouldnt talk to her so we sat back down looking like completely lost idiots. fortunately some woman was watching us the whole time and although she didnt speak english spoke to our farm woman (irene) for us and we ended up getting dropped off on the side of the road in between two bus stops. we found the road and were walking down it with our two backpacks a piece and thankfully a man offered us a ride because it was FAAAAR down the road.
anyway, the main woman, irene, speaks pretty good english and the woman who is in charge of us, Luciana (a mighty firery dyed ginger), is ok but some of the time we still dont understand her. she also has another woman that she lives with, barbara, who helps her out a little when we are completely confused. between the five of us we have gotten pretty settled in and things are going smoothly. we have our own room and share a bathroom with this other WWOOFer, Charles, who came yeterday. he is 25 and from luxumberg and is doing the program for his masters.
so our schedule: we wake up at 7 make ourselves breakfast - usually scrambbled eggs, toast, yogart, and coffee. then its out to the garden at 8 until 11 during which time we pick weeds... we are becoming the masters of weed picking, let me tell you! and squish these little bugs that eat the lettuce. they dont use chemicals here because its an organically certified farm so we are the human pesticide. hehe. then we eat lunch all together around 12 (today it was outside and we cooked! both firsts!) then we have a break until 5 because it gets way too hot to work. so we usually nap, read, and play cards...its a very long break and there isnt a whole lot to do. at 5 we go back out to the garden and pick some more weeds... they never seem to stop growing... until 8. then we change and go jogging for about 45 minutes along the creek. then its off to shower, have dinner and fall into bed compeletely dead and sore. you have no idea the mighty force it takes to pull these weeds out!
we only work 4 days a week so today is our last day for the week and we have fri, sat, and sun to do whatever we want... though we have NO idea what to do because the town is pretty far away and we clearly do not know how to use the bus system. itll be an interesting weekend i think! ill let you know what happens!
