Old Catania

Legend has it that the old Catania underground is so big and like a maze that someone went in there and never come back...
So, I have been to Catania and back with no part missing. I have to say that Catania is probably one of the craziest place I have been in Italy. It is so lively and chaotic. But charming in its own way.

Most memorable thing here would be the mosquito bites. I got loads of them all over my arms and legs. I was practically covered with the repellent from head to toes. But seem they were just immuned to it. By the day I left (stayed here for 4nights) I looked like I have chicken pox all over again.... (It was that bad.) Someone said that I must have got sweet blood. I don't know, if I ever find out I will let you know....

The whole town is full of Lava Stones. From pavement of sidewalk and the street to the wall of the buildings. At least they make a use of the source they have.

The city is built upon the old Catania which is spread all underground all over. They have digged only one part and display it to have a look at. It is amazing to see it.

The visit to Mt.

This is only one part of it. Apparently it runs through out the city. That's why there aren't many subway lines here. Wherever they dig into, always run into some ancient city. Same goes as in Rome.
Etna was impressive. We drove up to some about 2,000 meters above sea level and then walked up for about 2Km from there. Where we could get up close to the Etna. Unfortunately it was not a clear day. There were loads of clouds and could not see the lava flow.

By the time we drove away from Mt Etna, which was about 6.30pm. We turned around to have a look at Etna and we could see the red stream coming down from the mountain and we yelled... 'LAVA LAVA!!!!' So, I did see it!!!! It had made the trip worthwhile. But even though without that, it was definitely worthwhile anyway. Just to be there, so now I can say, 'Yes, I have been there, seen it, and done it!'

But I will definitely come back. To a clearer day with a better camera.
