We left Matteo's appartment in Milan and headed to Venice for the night and then from there to Florcence
he helped us book hostels and even gave us not one but three maps of florence to help us on our way
when we arrived in the station Katie went to the washroom
Feeling confident, Lynsey went to ask information about where on our map the hostel could be located
the woman at the desk looked at the address and tried to locate it on the map before saying
"it isnt here"
Lynsey responded with a puzzled look as we had already booked it, it definately did exist
then she talked slowly again with big sympthetic eyes saying
"you do know you are in Venice now right? this is a map of Florence...."
good. go us!
just when you think you have it all down pat..
when we finally made it out of the station
we walked around with our new and accurate map
the sinking city was like nothing we had ever seen before
most of the locals have invested in a boat rather than a car as the streets are little water passage ways rather than paved roads.
we have never seen so many bridges in one place before!
with all the water streets and narrow foot paths it was inevitable that we got very very lost
we were told once upon a time that the best way to explore was to just follow the wind and Venice was no exception but after arriving at the same plaza for the third time without any idea how to find our way back to the bus station we started to get a little frustrated
a group of people enjoying their dinner on an outsied terrace found it amusing to watch us turn the corner time after time even with a map in hand
we did find our way back after putting our egos in check and asking for directions from one of the many souvenir shops along the way
the next day we were much more productive with a mapped out route to the main sites.
We managed to find everythinng we wanted to see and even had time to do a little bird feeding...
Lynsey bravely stood in the middle of a flock of pigeons, arms outstretched, as they landed on her to eat the bird food out of her hands
After bathing in hand sanitizer we took the city bus back to our hostel, grabbed our packs and headed to Florence with the correct maps this time.
