View from our balcony We’re aboard the Nieuw Amsterdam and getting ready for our evening. The bus left the hotel about 11 this morning for the short ride to the ship. There are quite a few ships in port today including the Vision of the Sea and the Queen Victoria. The bus stopped at the luggage area quite a ways from the ship where we had to identify our luggage and turn it into the porters. Then we followed our guide to the check-in area. There was no line for checking in but at 11:45 they hadn’t started boarding yet so we waited in the waiting area for about an hour till they called #10. After the X-Ray and photos it was still quite a walk to the ship. As expected the cabins were not ready so they ushered us to the Dining Room for lunch. We shared table with a couple from Australia. John had a Shrimp Cocktail, barley and mushroom soup, and linguini in white sauce. Sharon had the buttermilk chicken. Both were excellent. Of course we followed it up with the chocolate mousse cake which was not quite as good as the White Chocolate Mousse cake we had for our wedding on

View from our balcony Sat. Also, John said to mention that the cokes here, even on the ship, have real sugar instead of corn syrup so he’s very happy about that.
We then headed to our cabin. We had booked an outside guarantee but about a month ago were offered an upgrade to a Veranda cabin for under $300 each so took them up on that and are glad we did. We’re on the 8th level just below the carpeted area of the Lido and so far it’s been very quiet. Note that like some of the hotels these days you have to use your key by the door to get electricity. Our luggage arrived shortly thereafter and we have everything unpacked and are settled in for the next 12 days.
After unpacking we headed to the Hudson room for mass and then up to the Lido for the BBQ dinner since we had an evening tour. The BBQ had ribs, steak, salmon, and Tofu skewers along with quite a few salads and sides dishes. It was nice around the pool and there was a guitar player/singer who was very good with soft ballads etc while eating that made it a pleasant

Flowers from John were a pleasant surprise meal before heading off for our evening gondola ride.
Forgot a few things from our morning blog from the hotel. For one we have to mention the bed in the hotel. It was the hardest bed I’ve ever been on. It had no give at all. Luckily I was so exhausted from the flights that I fell asleep quickly but not sure that would have been the case otherwise. The other thing is the view from our hotel window. All I can do here is try to include a picture of the we assume yellow traffic safety barriers but they looked like something else to us
Internet slow so will add photo later
