view from Venice hotel
This was the view from our hotel in Venice. The large Yellow objects in the road looked like toilets to us (yes they even have a hole on top). Guess they're supposed to prevent people from driving there but ? We’re in our Venitian hotel packing up to head to the ship in a couple of hours. We left our Malibu hotel late Monday morning and headed down Pacific Coast Highway to LAX in the rain. We arrived at the airport very early so had a leisurely lunch and afternoon of Sudoku before boarding our KLM flight. We had a direct flight to Amsterdam and then a connecting flight to Venice. We have to say that the leg room on KLM is the smallest we’ve ever seen and 6” more of leg room they were pushing before we left. John managed to sleep a bit after a glass of wine and Sharon as usual did not (though she may have dozed off for a few minutes). We arrived in Amsterdam about 11 am very tired and confused trying to find out where to go next and if we had to get our bags and recheck them etc. Finally found a staffed info booth and luckily our bags were checked all the way thru so got in line to go thru Passport control for the C concourse. The line wasn’t that long but was moving slowly because of the security line it

our hotel room in Venice.Very modern fed into. We found our gate but still had plenty of time before our 3 pm flight.
We arrived in Venice about 4:30 and had to wait a while for our bags but there was no real customs or passport control so we headed out quickly to find the HAL representative. She was very friendly but all the others were going to the downtown hotel while we had picked the slightly cheaper option ($278 per person vs the $427 per person they wanted for the downtown one). So they apparently had planned a very small car to pick us up so when she saw our luggage she called and made other arrangements and apologized that we’d have to wait a few minutes. It really wasn’t that long and we were on our way to the hotel, The Laguna Palace. It’s a very modern hotel but nice. We arrived around 5:30 pm and were hungry and tired but the restaurant didn’t open until 7:45. They said there was a pizzeria around the corner but that wouldn’t work for us (the Sharon part of us doesn’t eat tomato or cheese). So we took a nap and awoke around 8 to go

our hotel room in Venice.Very modern eat. John had the grilled sea bass with scented basil vegetables and Sharon the BBQ beef filet with marinated mushroom buttons and parmesan shaves (ok so John ate the mushrooms). Neither of us had the squid ink or rabbit salad. We shared the best tiramisu with biscuits and pralines. It was a very nice meal thanks to the Euros Dena, Bill, and William gave us as a “Engagement” gift (to get around our no wedding gifts request) with 1.5 Euros to spare. Needless to say Venice is not an inexpensive city.
We both slept well and will head down to breakfast after finishing this entry. Our bags must be out at 10:30 and the shuttle to the ship is at 11:00. We’ll post more from there as the trip goes on.

squid ink and parasites
I am sure that you aware that squid ink can contain some very nasty parasites (if the ink is not properly boiled) that require prescription type drugs that are taken over approx. 6 months in order to fully rid your system of these. Left untreated, the parasites pass thru the stomach and intestine and cause a whole lot of pain and nasty boil-type skin blotches...
