Good morning everyone. Well, for you guys it's late night. I woke up today in dire need of doing laundry. That's the bad things of trips like this. Also, with the ridiculous humidity, I'm relegated to taking 2 or 3 showers a day. Hence going through my clothes quicker.
I set out looking for a laundromat and could only find one. Much to my dismay, it cost 6 dollars for each washer cycle and 3 euros for each dryer cycle. Since I can't mix my whites with my colors, that means it would cost me at LEAST 15 euros......FIFTEEN EUROS for LAUNDRY! WTF! Without a place to dry my things, I didn't have much of a choice, or else I would've washed all my clothes in the sink. Anyways, after a couple hours, I finally had a full wardrobe of clean clothes.
Oh no! Why won't this ATM give me money! Did my account get frozen? It can't be. I called them and told them I would be in Europe. Let me tell you, you do not know the feeling of vulnerability when you are in a foreign country with no access to funds. I had a grand total
of 4 Euros on me and no way to use my card. I figured I'd just try another ATM and got the same result. After trying not to panic, I went to the hostel to call Citibank. After being on hold for 20 minutes or so, they told me that everything was ok on their end and to try yet another ATM. So off I went to search for another ATM. Luckily, this time it worked and I was able to withdraw 400 Euros. Phew!
After going back to the hostel to escape the heat for a little bit and change clothes, I decided to head out to the Accademia museum (no, it's not the famous one in Florence, it's the Venetian counterpart).
On the way there, I hopped on the vaporetto. One of the employees came over and asked me to present my ticket. Since I purchased a 72 hour pass, I thought (no problem). So I looked in my left pocket.....nothing.......I searched in my right pocket.....nothing. After frantically checking all my pockets, I remembered I left it in my other pair of pants in the hostel. Damnit. Just my luck eh? After pleading with the conductor
to no avail, I was forced to pay a 39.50 Euro fine. Damnit, just what I needed :(
So I went to the Accademia hostel, checked out some pretty well known pieces. Overall, the museum was cool, but not packed with amazing works like some of the others. I was there for all of an hour or hour and a half or so.
Since I had decided to have dinner with a couple of my hostelmates, I headed back to the hostel. Not sure if I mentioned my hostelmates in the previous entries (because I'm writing this a week after the fact and I'm too lazy to go back and read my blog), so I have the 2 people from minnesota and a older lady from Australia who teaches in London. It's funny because she cusses like a sailor. It's great.
After going out for dinner and drinks, we all kind of just hung out at the hostel and relaxed. Anyways, that's it for this installment of my blog. Talk to you guys later..... same bat time, same bat channel haha.
