Checked out of the hotel to get to Venice early, and of course promptly got lost again... Italian roads/signs (or lack thereof)/directions all are TERRIBLE!!! Finally arrive at our hotel outside of Venice 2 hrs later than we wanted to, and then took the bus to Venice and got there by 2pm.
We basically just walked around on this first day. It was incredibly beautiful everywhere we went. And getting lost, on foot, in Venice... let me just say there are worse things in life ;) We went to San Marcos Basilica at the very end of the day, and unfortunately Thad couldn't go in because he had a backpack and there wasn't time for him to have it held before it closed for the day so he told me to go in while I could. It was the most spectacular building I've ever seen!! I insisted we come back the next day for Thad to see it, and that we do so 11:30-12:30 when the place is lit up. Only other thing we saw on this first day in Venice was an exhibit on the making of the violin... Thad loved some of the basses on display.
Had
a wonderful/romantic dinner on the water, and then took a long boat ride back which was incredibly beautiful.
Our second day in Venice also marked 3 weeks of our trip already... YIKES its going by fast!! We got an early start to head into Venice. Thad was so glad I made him go back to San Marcos Basilica, and I'm really glad I got to see it lit up... even more spectacular. We spent probably two hours in there, going to also see the treasury, the alter, and upstairs. Unfortunately photography is not allowed inside, so I bought some postcards to remember it by and scrapbook later.
We found this great place for lunch, totally out of the way, only locals there, basically in this quaint little square where we had some yummy little sandwhiches, salad, and some beer. It was just a nice relaxing lunch. Walked around some more, mint gelato for an afternoon snack, drinks watching the sunset and again dinner overlooking the water.
