DavidA statue - apparently with the same name as mine
Stone statues, cobblestone corners, Firenze-style fashion. Add being hounded by street merchants trying in vain to sell their latest Armani fake, a tower with a bit of a lean to it, and bottle after bottle after bottle of Tuscan wine… and you have pretty much summed up our time in Tuscany...
Highs
1. Staying with the Swedish girls we latched onto in Naples who resided in an inner city villa overlooking a hip part of Florence. Embracing their local knowledge and ‘warm’ welcome provided the perfect escape from the hum of hostel living.
2. Ogling at 16th Century statues and the beauty that is nudity. From my namesake, to that of others, each with an individual history and distinct story. Ahhh nudity, it can’t be beaten.
3. The fine Tuscan wine that we consumed was enough to re-flood parts of the previously effected region. Yep, the body was fueled with antioxidants this Easter.
Lows
1. Unfortunately we were in Florence on the only two days of the year where the Uffizi was closed - apparently it is overrated anyway.
2. Being bemused at having to waste 10 Euro to walk through the Baboli Gardens - a
disappointing attraction that should never be mentioned in the same breath as Melbourne’s beautiful Botanics.
3. Arriving and then departing Pisa in a mere flash of a camera. Getting “that photo” was the only thing to appreciate in the otherwise sh*tty city. Is it possible however, that our photo of the tower takes the cake as one of the greatest ever?
HomelyThe Swedes, fluent in 5 languages, made our stay very comfortable
Non ComprehendeIt's a dam shame we weren't accustomed to the Italian tongue
