Ciao everyone! Yesterday we arrived in Florence, the city of renaissance. Checked into the appropriately named emerald palace. Watched the end of the sunset from across the river over the city, verrry nice. Under a good friends specific instructions, we searched the city for the gato e la volpe, apparently the best italian restaurant in the city, and enjoyed tortellini, ravioli, and a bottle of chianti. Did a little exploring with some new friends, to begin our quest to try every gelato flavor in italy. Approve of; pistachio, tiramisu, hazelnut, and berry. Today we awoke bright and early and set out to climb the 462 steps of the duomo to reach the top of the giant dome, only to find that there are in fact only 459 (I counted). So really it should cost less than 8 euros. Survived a flash thunderstorm, Laura was prepared with an umbrella and raincoat, I chose to keep mine safe and dry at the hostel. Had mozzarella pizza and found more gelato. Approve of; rasberry, crem de grom, caramel, lemon. Explored the markets, everything smells like leather, avoided buying an expensive full length fitted leather coat, despite how tempted I was, and now packing up
to trek to rome tonight. Best wishes to all!

Did you guys hang your cameras over the plexiglass and freak people out that you were going to fall? Oh, I did.
Isn't Florence interesting. Buildings from medival times and from the renaissance as well as modern times. I glad you didn't by a leather coat. Way over priced in Italy. Love the pics. Can't wait to see your pics of Rome.
Love,
Mom
When Laura & Charlie were little & visited me at "Bell Abs", their favorite activity was to count the steps from the basement to the attic. The more things change the more they stay the same. When you get the Rome, I want a full report on how many steps are in the "Scalinata della Trinita dei Monti" (Spanish Steps) (I already know the (official) answer) - Dad
I envy you!!! i miss it soo!!!!
Seems like things are going well and I envy all that you are seeing. Good to hear that Avalon is no longer a lobster.
I am going back to Maine and we will have our three granddaughter with us for a week which should be fun. Niki dropped by today. She had been to Hawaii and leaves tomorrow for Cambodia.
Sounds like you are getting to see a lot and also to eat some rather nice food along the way. Take care and keep enjoying the trip.

looove you guys!!!!! i'm soooo glad you are having fun in italy! go swimming in the mediterranean! you may have done that already loll.
What great pictures. Just got a break from the cave fish in Maryland and thought I would finally check out the travel blog. Didn't have time to read the postings, but it looks like you two are having the time of your lives. Seems too innocent, though. Get into some trouble while you're there! It's alright, you're still young. Just don't go crazy--if I've learned one thing from National Geographic it's that being locked-up abroad is no joke.
