Buongiourno amici e famiglia! [Good morning friends and family!]
...As a special request from my Grandma, I will be putting the translations in English of the Italian phrases that I use in my journals in quotes! :)
It was so nice to see dad on skype last night!!!! And also of course mom, Grandma, Grandpa, Cheryl, Aunt Jo, Uncle Rick, Aunt Heidi, Cade and Tegan!! I hope you all had a good time celebrating Grandma's birthday!
I put pictures of our "hike" up the duomo [cathedral dome] of Santa Maria Del Fiore in this blog. I felt so out of shape walking up that yesterday and this morning when we left for school my legs almost gave out walking down our stairs! ha! Cheryl, we REALLY need to restart our hard core aerobics again when I get home!!!!!
We had art this morning and for some reason NOBODY could get up on time. I was the first one up and had to wake the other girls. I don't know how I got up because I went to sleep at 2:30 after doing ONE homework assignment for 8 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHH. I better get an A on that...
We
have Italian in about 2 hours and hopefully that goes by quickly! I get so bored in that class, our instructor doesn't speak English so it makes it really hard to understand what she is trying to teach us! Yesterday we learned a lot more verbs and irregular verbs which was easy for me since I've taken a lot of German and French classes. Italian just isn't sticking well in my memory. Especially if I am out and about and a person asks me a question... directions for example... I usually only look like a deer caught in headlights and just stare in awkward silence for what seems like an eternity and then just say "Io non capisco" [I don't understand] and quickly walk away in the opposite direction. hahaha
As most of you know, our laundry and dish washing situations are pretty bad and "clean" has become a relative term... All of my shirts are stretched out and are turning different colors because of my new technique in clothes washing... putting them in the biggest pot that we have with laundry soap and letting the clothes boil for about 20 minutes until I feel that enough of the
stench and dirt has been removed. Because of this technique... my white shirts are now light pink and my dark jeans are now light... at least light jeans are in season....
Jeans are the absolute worst to wash! They take SO long to dry and are hard to actually get clean. I have a pair that haven't been washed yet and I think they permanently smell like exhaust fumes, cigarette smoke, and stinky/expensive/too strong perfume... or should I just say that they smell permanently like Italians? And thank you mom for sending me that duffel bag in my care package, it is a great dirty clothes hamper!
Dishes are quite an issue... I have cleaned the WHOLE apartment twice now and nobody else has. I think I am going to just let it get gross. I am sick of cleaning up after my roommates like I am their mom. Clutter and things like that really aren't a problem but its the dirt, crumbs, and food that is. Our mugs all have coffee or tea rings inside, our forks have bits of food still stuck to them and our spatula has never been washed. I took a bowl out of
the cupboard this morning and found that it had old egg dried all over the side of it. Yummmmm.
So the plan for this weekend was to make a trip down to Naples, Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius but only 2 other girls are down to go and even then, none of us have made any effort of making travel arrangements...I think we are a little scarred from last weekend's adventures! We are considering just doing a day trip instead of staying the whole weekend so that we don't have to spend money to get a crappy hotel or stay in a hostel. But maybe we will just stay home... I am STILL exhausted from Venice! haha
Tonight all of us from CAPA are going out again for karaoke night at the Lion's Fountain to celebrate the groups that will be leaving back to the states on Sunday. We are friends with the owner and my roommates and I requested a reserved spot for us to sing Spice Girls. WOOHOO! hahaha, it should be a good time!
And just as another reminder to everyone, my journal entries are going to be private from now on, but most of
you have e-mailed me to keep your names on the list. If you received an e-mail from travelblog saying that I updated, then you are still on the list! I appreciate all of you that take the time to read these and I really enjoy hearing from you!
Sorry for any inconvenience but I just found out that two girls that I live with, who shall remain unnamed, have been creeping on my journals and trying to use what I wrote about a certain incident against me to feed their drama addictions. I am writing specifically to my friends and family at home and this serves as a documentation of my experiences here. My journals are not a gossip source for dumb, immature girls!
Molto grazie!
amore [love],
Kel
