Palazzo VecchioI accidently waited in line for this place before going to the Ufizzi gallery around the corner. it had a beautiful entrance plaza.
I have been a bit slack the last couple of days and also have not found a computer to upload photos.
I caught an express train to Florence which cost 38 euros and took one and a half hours. I thought that this was a bargain as the normal trains were only a little cheaper and would have taken 4hours! When i arrived in Florence it was pouring rain and unfortunately it hasnt stopped yet. it does tend to put a bit of a dampener on things....pardon the pun.
I had tried to book three nights at a hostel before leaving rome but unfortunately the saturday night was fully booked. so i decided to book sunday and monday and hoped that they kept beds for people who just walked in. alas, they didn't and the receoption guy was very rude but directed me to a motel/hostel down the road. i stayed there for my first night. it was nice enough. pretty quiet which was actually a nice change. i was pretty tired after my last night in Rome where we all went out to a wine bar so it was nice to just lie on a bed, snooze and
View of Florence I took this photo from a window inside the Ufizzi Gallery. Unfortunately you are not allowed to take photos of the interior.
read my book.
i got up pretty early in the morning and moved my bags back to the other hostel and checked in. after that i spent the day walking around Florence, in the rain. The highlight of the day was the Ufizzi gallery. It was full of beautiful paintings and i actually enjoyed myself more here than i did at the Louvre. Either way it was worth the 2hour wait in the line to get in!
At the end of the day i wandered around trying to find a supermarket to buy some fruit and something for dinner and an english bookstore as i have now finished by book. i had no luck on the bookstore so i will be searching again this morning.
I will have another three days in Florence but i will be making a lot of day trips to places nearby. I think i will head to Pisa today. I have been told that it only takes about 2hours to walk around so i might get to another place as well.
The weather forecast is for it to get a bit warmer and clearer so i am looking forward to that.
Until next time...
