our tour (groups)
4 DAYS/ 3 NIGHTS
1st day: Assisi. The visit begins with the Porziuncola in Santa Maria degli Angeli, the tiny oratory where the story of the Francescan Order began and where the saint died. We will go on to Assisi, and visit the Basilica with the frescoes of Giotto and the tomb of the saint. Then on to the Gothic Church of Santa Chiara and the Medieval centre of the town. In the afternoon we will visit San Damiano and on the way back call at Deruta, a small town famous for its ceramics. There will be an opportunity to make purchases.
2nd day: Cortona. First we will visit Le Celle, a solitary religious retreat, with lunch in the friars' refectory. In the afternoon we visit the Church of St. Francis which is second only to the Basilica of Assisi in the Franciscan religious order and which holds important religious relics, including the cowl and the tunic of St Francis. Finally we will visit the small town of Cortona with the Diocesan Museum to see the beautiful ‘’Annunciation’’ by Beato Angelico.
3rd day: Sansepolcro. In the morning we visit the monastery of Montecasale and the Castle of Montauto. According to tradition Montecasale was founded in 1213 by St. Francis of Assisi who received it as a gift from the bishop of Cittą di Castello. We then visit the Castle of Montauto, which was visited by St. Francis. Inside the chapel there are long-preserved relics including a fragment of the saint’s cowl.
4th day: La Verna. The morning is dedicated to visiting the retreat where St. Francis of Assisi lived. Overlooking the Arno valley from an impressive height, the complex monastery is almost entirely hidden by a dense wood. In 1213 Count Cattani gave St. Francis the whole mountain on which La Verna rises. St. Francis soon learned to love this remote and silent place, well-suited to living in austere and ascetic solitude. It was here, in fact, that the saint received the Stigmata on 14 September 1224.

L'Eremo di Camaldoli
We visit the hermitage at Camaldoli, a cloistered place for meditation, plus the Monastery where the Camaldolesi Order was founded. Close contact with nature is indispensable for an understanding of the
Camaldolesi spirit. Take a short walk and discover Il Castagno Miraglia, a five hundred year old forest tree. Lunch will be at the monastery.
Arts and crafts in a Medieval town
We suggest a guided tour of the town centre of Anghiari, an enchanting Medieval town perched on a promontory over the Valtiberina. In the afternoon we will visit some typical workshops: one of handmade fabrics made from quality fibres, creating linens, curtains, cushions and tablecloths. Visits to both a basketweaving workshop and an ancient oil mill will end this handicrafts tour.
