1st day: in the morning visit Poppi, a Medieval village in the Casentino valley, and the Conti Guidi castle. Taste typical products (Scarpaccia ham, cheese from the Talla dairy). In the afternoon, a visit to the Castle and the Parish Church of Romena. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.
2nd day: after breakfast, the Romanesque trip continues with a short stop at the Parish Church of Socana. Arrival at Arezzo, tour of the old town centre, including the beautiful Parish Church of Santa Maria. Free time for lunch. During the afternoon you will have some free time and then visit the Parish Church of Bagnoro, 6th/7th century church, dedicated to Saint Eugenia. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.
3rd day: breakfast in hotel. Along the ancient road called Cassia Vetus you can see familiar backgrounds from Leonardo da Vinci’s works: Ponte a Buriano and the Balze. Short stop to visit the Medieval village of Loro Ciuffenna. Walk towards the Parish Church of Gropina, one of the most important examples of Romanesque culture in Tuscany. Lunch in a typical eating-house. In the afternoon, visit Borro, a little village and a perfect
example of Medieval rural architecture, and its workshops. Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.
4th day: breakfast in the hotel. Visit the Valdichiana Valley. Visit Monte San Savino, a Medieval town and
birthplace of Pope Giulio III. This town is also known for its ceramics, hand-worked using very ancient techniques handed down from generation to generation. Visit to the castle of Gargonza, a Medieval village with an 18th century tower, walls and Romanesque Parish Church. In 1302 the most important guest was Dante Alighieri, as the historian Leonardo Bruni writes in his “Dante’s Life”. Lunch in the restaurant of the castle. In the afternoon, visit to Lucignano, whose streets were built in a concentric shape. Departure of the group.
